Posted by Peter Wiggins on November 13, 2007 at 5:29 pmAll,
Not enough money for a stand? Company in trouble?

November 13, 2007 at 6:18 pmMost definitely a company in financial trouble. They can dress it up all they want and put a positive spin on it, but they are definitely showing their financial trouble to the world with this one. Especially since they had the prime first booth location all these years.

November 13, 2007 at 7:16 pmI can’t say I’m surprised.
When a company like this, is as arrogant as they are/were, it can only last so long.
They should have done this years ago.

November 13, 2007 at 7:45 pmThere is a link on the front page of CC to an article on this explaining their new initiatives etc. The funniest thing is there is a link down the bottom of the article
https://www.avid.com/we-are-listening ”
to sign up to recieve emails about these initiatives. Problem is the “we are listening” link goes to a page that cannot be found (at least it did when I tried it). Is this the definition of irony? -

November 13, 2007 at 7:46 pmVery interesting news…
I have to agree with Borjis though. The last two NAB shows where pretty thin for them as compared to Apple’s booth.

Looks like they still haven’t learned their lesson.

November 13, 2007 at 8:04 pmI personally would not like to see a company like Avid become a lesser entity because of poor management decisions or whatever everyone perceives the present problems to be at the moment. Competition between companies benefits us all and keeps our favourite flavour of NLE cutting edge.

Actually I think they ARE listening….. to their large clients. They’re probably annoyed with all the “little people” hanging around the Avid booth and want to be treated as the “large clients” that they are. Private meetings in hotel suites are so much more “important” than having the presence on the show floor.
It makes it much more difficult for the small guys and up and coming production companies to get their hands on the product. Avid really seeks to serve the large market anymore as that is the only way they can compete and justify the huge costs of their products.
Apple and Adobe open up the game for anyone with a couple of thousands of dollars to get into the business. Avid and certainly their high end clients, are not going to “settle” for that.

November 13, 2007 at 8:24 pmproper link i guess is this
https://www.avid.com/we-are-listeningdid I ever rant about my time trying to upgrade a very old avid system?
i’m gonna say no..
Well a teacher at the school i work at/attend has an old media composer, and wanted to donate it to us so we could use the system as a base platform to upgrade from, well that being said I called avid.
After 2 days of 4 seperate calls I spent a total amount of 45 minutes listening to nothing but ringing on their west coast distribution line. As in if you go to the avid webpage and go to contact us, the number it gives you…
Thats customer service.

oh yeah absolutely.
If you don’t buy the service contract with the exclusive support numbers they actually answer, your out on your can.
I do understand the need for this way of doing business, but its nice to see companies like Adobe and Apple that don’t require it.
