January 6, 2008 at 9:13 pmI took a very quick peek at Avid’s Liquid – very quick – and was not impressed. It appeared to be at the low, prosumer end of Avid’s technology. At first glance, and that’s really all I gave it, it reminded me of Sony’s Vegas editing solution which I have always regarded as prosumer in nature. I love my FCP, and I’m looking forward to whatever Apple will surprise us with at NAB 2008…anyone know any rumors?
Who’s the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows?

It’s not Avid technology at all. It’s the old Pinnacle Liquid which Avid inherited when they purchased the company. The top end Liquid was actually one of the most impressive NLE systems around, but nobody was purchasing it because nobody believe Pinnacle would be a serious player in non-linear editing.
Pinnacle also developed the CineWave card for Final Cut Pro which in many ways still outperforms all the other capture card options for FCP available today. Avid put the final nail in the coffin on that product when they acquired Pinnacle.
