    I have a Sony FX1 and I was wondering if there is any benifit to shooting HD if I deliver in standard 16X9 format? Also what are my choices for delivery as I am editing in Apple.
    Thanks!!!

    Video shot in HDV look WONDERFUL when they are down-converted to SD for delivery.

    The most common delivery is still SD DVD, and it is quite simple to down-convert to SD DVD using compressor.

    I’d rather use MPEG Streamclip for downcoverting, it does a great job and is much faster.

    Two big advantages to shooting HDV vs SD
    1) You can downconvert to SD (as stated earlier) and get great quality
    2) VERY IMPORTANT – you or your client may change your mind and want (now or in the future) this footage posted HD…..and you’ll have it.
    Good Luck, CH

    Do you down covert while going into FCP, or do you down convert after editing using compressor?
    Thanks!!!

    I prefer to edit and master in HD then doen convert using compressor. that way if the client wants a HD DVD later or a HD video file I do nit have to reedit.

    well because I have yet to meet anybody has a HD DVD or Blue-Ray DVD player, I have not invested in ether of those methods.

    What I currently will offer is a HD video file. I myself and several others I know have a AppleTV. The AppleTV supports 720p 24fpc So I can convert the file to those specs (the new compressor has a preset for this) And the video look great.

    [Patrick Morrow] “Dumb question but how do you deliver on HD format right now if a client wants it?”

    #1…find out the format of HD that they want.

    HDV and DVCPRO HD…if you shot and worked in those formats, then you can output via firewire back to those formats just fine. But if they want a higher end format like HDCAM, D5, HDCAM SR, then:

    #2 – Get a high def capture card like the Kona Lh, Kona 3 or Decklink Extreme…then rent a deck, might have to get a tri-sync blakc burst…or;

    #3 Take your project to a post facility that is FCP based and have them do the output for you.
