Pro Application Update 2007-01 updates the following components

    Apple ProRes 422:
Delivers improved encoding performance for Power Mac G5 computers.

Anyone test to see if there quads and lower G5s can handle ProRes 422 capture with the update?

Our Quad G5 can capture ProRes HD all day long now.

No I still can’t capture 720P over component with the update
    I wish I could.

Walter can you capture 720P 60 with ProRes?

Walter can you capture 720P 60 with ProRes?”

Yep, 720/60 and 1080i/60 no problems.

    this is strange.

    my setup should work.

    G5 Quad, PCI-E model, 4GB Ram

Ciprico 4210 4gb fibre channel array

    BMD Multibridge Extreme.

I heard someone with a near identical setup has it working as well.

Check to see if your Blackmagic has a new set of drivers for you. Walter and I are using Kona 3s on our Mac Pro system, so we are able to do anything in ProRes 422.

k so this confused me also. But the statement mentions “encoding” not “capturing” for G5. I went back to the apple support page to find the article about ProRes capture on Intel and found that they updated it for Quad G5s. However there is no mention of any other G5 supported for capture, so we can only assume that any other G5 won’t work. Check it out here: https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305582

Its weird to use the word “encoding” tho, what does that mean? Render to ProRes? Export to ProRes?

I have a G5 quad similar to Borjis. I was able to capture to ProRes 720p60 when it first came out but now cannot capture more than 5 minutes worth at a time. Since the ProApps update I can now capture a complete tape of ProRes 1080i but still not 720p. Go figure.

I am running the FCS2 drivers for black magic multibridge extreme,
so I know thats not it.

    I have not tried 1080i.

I know the person who did capture used HD-SDI not component.
I wonder if that extra step is whats causing the problem.

My system did manage to capture about 20 seconds of 720P 60
    before it failed.

Prior to the update it would fail within 5 seconds.
