MMmmm, nice suprise in the mail today! I thought it would come 5th of June.

Installing right now. I am between projects so I am installing on one of our machines to test it out. Will post if I find any weirdness.

    Back to installing now.

    Whohoo.

You did clone your startup drive, right?

Nah… If I need a total reinstall its probably good anyway. Its full of all sorts of crap. Im feeling dangerous today. Besides we are not working on that machine for a couple of days. Obviously I needed latest tiger and qtime. Doing a full install so it might take some time.

Congrats Luuude. You’ll have to post your impressions for us when you get some more time with the new suite.

I just got word today that our upgrades (my boss ordered from Amazon) won’t be coming in until the END of June. I know it’s dangerous to upgrade in the middle of a project, but I’m coming up on the part of a project where I have to export lots of clips for steadying in Shake (boats shot from a boat – blah) and, with a backup drive and system at the ready, I was hoping the new smoothcam filter could save me some time.

Anyway, have fun with your new toys,
    Zak

We upgraded the same as Luuude and things seem to be good! Normally we would whip the drive and start from scratch but since the drive needs a new install so we thought we would play a little before the full reinstall. All of our prefs were left in tact including our setting in compressor. We have a AJA LA and can play XDCAM HD footage out through the AJA LA in SD! Very Cool!

It is amazing to me that upgrades are so scary. Even when doing an OS update drive clones are recommended. Remember 10.4.9 and FCP 4.5, well it was just a spotlight issue that was easily fixed. I guess everybody was too busy being unsympathetic to those who didn’t clone.

I’m with you on that one, but backing up should be a no-brainer when you’re talking about the machine you need to do your job.

    JMF,

Do you buckle up your seatbelt when driving, or do you just pray for the best?

Would you use prophylactics at a bordello, or just hope you don’t catch STDs?

Personally, I get very angry when I hear of people dying in auto accidents just because they didn’t wear their seatbelts, and thankfully I don’t know soul who’d have unprotected sex and risk getting SDTs at a bordello. However, a high percentage of the traffic on this forum is about issues that would otherwise be preventable if people would simply clone their system drives before engaing in unprotected updates/upgrades. So yes, I’m not very sympathetic…

I have to say, there’s something I never thought I would have to ponder on a Final Cut Pro forum. Excellent illustration to be sure, but just when I think I’ve seen everything on this forum…….

Absolutely because you should completely erase your System Drive and start over to ensure the upgrade is done correctly.

    Good one Walter!!!

We must keep drumming this into everyone’s heads. Maybe someday people will actually get it and do it???
