Is the G-Raid mini striped right out of the box or do I have to ‘raid’ it myself?

Does it need to be powered or can I use it being powered via the firewire cable?

I ask because my new $500 160 gig drive just won’t play video this evening

    TIA

There are two hard drives in this unit that are raided via hardware, so they will show up as only one drive. But, it would be wise to erase it and format it MacOS extended…just in case. I do that with every new drive.

The G-Raid Mini is bus powered. But if it is the regular G-Raid, you need power.

Just to add to Shane’s comment: Your G-Raid mini also has a power adapter and since the owner’s manual states that you may need to augment the FW (power) connection with some computers I’d suggest trying the power adapter if you’re having problems keeping the mini powered on with only the FW connection. If you’ve got something plugged into the other FW port at the same time there might not be enough left for the mini. Just a thought.

FWIW I use the mini with a 17″ Macbook Pro and don’t need to use the power adapter. Works fine for me.

I noticed your post in the Canon forum and was wanting to help but I don’t know squat about the H1. Just curious to know if you found a solution and were able to capture OK (Is this known as thread jacking?) :0
