How do you guys normally transfer Anamorphic 16:9 to 4:3 with black bars?

I usually copy and paste my Anamorphic 16:9 clips from one timeline to another timeline with 4:3 DV settings and it automatically squishes it and adds the default black bars.
The only problem is that I would have to render it and then export it and it takes way too long.

I also notice that whenever I do this, the image is a little bit more squished than normal.

There has to be another way.

an easier way would be to simply drag and drop your whole sequnece into the 4:3 timeline, rather than copying clip by clip.

Export the entire timeline as a QT clip, sound and vision.

Re-import the clip, and drop it into a 4:3 timeline, so it’s letterboxed. Of course, you’ll have to render it for a print to tape, although it’ll play in RT off the timeline.

You may find in DV that you have some interlacing visible (or even a purple line caused by DV VITC) at the top and bottom of frame. You may get a cleaner letterboxed image by cropping the top and bottom by one line. You image will not be squash incorrectly by this method – if it looks wrong it’s your monitor.

The advantage of this method is that the render you do will be much quicker – and it gives you a handy backup of the timeline.
