hdv 50i to 24p or 25p?
hi,
Im editing an independent feature film shot in hdv 50i mode. Im thinking to convert the final output into either 24p or 25p but haven’t got experience of doing it. Im wondering if 24p is better than 25p, and what is the best way converting it. I’ve read about nattress and noticed that it only allows 60i to 24p but not 50i to 24p. I also wondered if we could do the deinterlacing ourself and still getting a good output without the need of buying the plugin.
Also i have a magic bullet editor version1. can it be used with hdv?

Bump your HDV to uncompressed. De-interlace. Use Cinema tools to conform to 24p. No extra software needed, unless you need a nice de-interlacer.

I’ve tried the demo filters from nattress,
whats the differences between those de-interlacers? they all seems the same to me.
Which package should I buy if I want the 50i -> 24p/25p stuff.
I assume that the package would be the standard conversion, but Im just wondering if Film Effects filter also has the same conversion effects.

You’ll need a real HD monitor to see the difference in the de-interlacers. FCP doesn’t show interlaced video right, so it’s going to be hard for you to tell. They all look subtley different.
For 50i to 24p, you need to de-interlace, bump the video to uncompressed, and use cinema tools to conform. That’s the best way.

which one do u think is better to go into DVD? 25p or 24p? cause i heard some problems happens when u convert 50i to 24p.
Also which one is the right package for me to buy from nattress? Could you please explain?

Jack, I need to know more about the project and audience to answer 25p or 24p fully. You can do all of this with the in-built tools in FCP, Quality of de-interlace doesn’t matter for going to DVD as it’s so much lower resolution than HD.
