  • AJA LA or DecklinkSP?

Would I gain any performance using the DecklinkSP over the AJA LA? I have a Dual 1.4 G4 and a 1.25G4 Powerbook. I would like to get the AJA LA so I could capture BetaSP right into the Powerbook on the road. Any suggestions?

I think you answered your own question. If you want flexibility to capture to any Mac, then the Io LA is the way to go. I have one here to use with my two Kona 2 systems and the laptop. Flexibility is the key reason I purchased it as it just connects to whichever machine needs analog inputs.

Just be aware that the AJA wont play well with anything else on the firewire bus, so if you want to capture to an external drive on the powerbook you will need to get a PCMCIA firewire 800 card. I have a G-Raid on that card and can capture uncompressed from Beta SP with a 1.5ghz laptop.
