PProCC2015 not seeing USB 3 RAID in Media Browser (Mac)
I am unable to use Media Browser to see an external OWC RAID array, which is connected via a CalDigit USB 3.0 PCIe card. In the listing under “Local Drives”, this drive is not displayed. However, when I click on the “Local Drives” label all drives including this RAID show in the righthand pane. I still cannot open it from there. I can open the other drives. Also when I try to use the locate function, it will not see this drive in that dialogue either.
I can still use import to bring in media from the array and I can drag media into PProCC by using the Finder. Import and export from PProCC work just fine. All other software on this system (FCPX, Resolve, etc.) see this array without issue.
2010 MacPro 12-core, OSX 10.10.4. All Adobe CC apps are current up through today’s round of updates (7/30).
Thoughts? TIA.

I’m really reaching here Oliver, as I have no tangible experience with the exact variables you’re dealing with now. That being said, if I were you, at some point I would consider backing up the RAID, then reformatting it under your latest version of Yosemite. There just might be some minor bit or byte that’s been changed in the formatting or configuration that makes a difference. I have encountered stuff like this in the past.

It’s brand new and was formatted about a week ago under 10.10.4. This seems to be entirely a Premiere issue – either with the RAID or the CalDigit card. I’m not seeing any issues with any other application or with any other part of Premiere and this RAID.

Well, that’s a horse of a different color, and is definitely something that defies both reason and logic. Don’t you just hate dealing with issues to which reason and logic do not apply?

I had a somewhat similar situation right after the latest release. Uninstall/reinstall of Media Encoder fixed it for me. Not as specific as your problem, but things not showing up in Media Browser but there in the finder, Favorites coming and going, etc.

Thanks. Just tried that. No luck. FWIW – other single drives connected to this CalDigit USB3 card appear properly under Media Browser.

what happens if you alias a folder from the RAID to a location you can get to via browser?

Interesting. Yes, I created an alias of my Projects folder from the RAID and placed that on the desktop. I can access and open that in Media Browser. It’s a good workaround, but what does that mean? Is that a clue to a better fix?

Everything you’ve described plus that result indicates pretty clearly it’s bug to me.
I’d report it and work around that way until they fix.
Or that’s to say I can’t think of a better way to work around it for now.
sorry…but at least you’re not locked out of your RAID.

OWC’s recommendation is to repartition the RAID (same as David suggested). I can’t do that until a few weeks from now as I’m in mid-project. I’ll do that then and post back if indeed it provides a solution.
