A couple of months ago, I updated from Windows XP pro with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 to Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I built a brand new machine with an i7 processor and 6 GB of memory. I have had more glitches since I made the switch than Windows ME. Here are some examples:

#1. I created a long and complicated sequence. When I send it to the Media Encoder, I always get an “unknown error.” I’ve tried different encoding settings, nothing makes any difference. But… When I take it apart and render the parts individually, ALL of them will render without a problem.

#2. I tried converting all of the video to AVI and recreating the sequence. This time, the entire sequence rendered (it took the better part of a week–about 80 hours) and when it was finished, the video galloped along at several times the normal speed and then hung on the last frame. Meanwhile, the sound was normal.

#3. I tried creating a DVD with the invidual parts that I rendered and I discovered that the rendered video had video and audio tracks that were of different length, so that when I tried to compile the play list, I ended up with a video that was considerably shorter than the audio.

#4. I bought the Dolby 5.1 codec and if I do not multiplex the video and audio together, the surround sound doesn’t show up at all.

#5. If I do multiplex the video, the audio track ends up being about 3 or 4 times longer than the video track.

#6. I am having trouble importing rendered video into Encore. When I try to import the video as an asset, the whole computer locks up and I have to do a hard restart.

#7. I have tried contacting customer support, but I can only get ahold of their lowest level support, which apparently is outsourced to India. They have escalated my case, but nobody has responded or called me in almost 2 weeks. It has been a month and counting since I began asking for help with these glitches. Does anybody know how to reach anybody from Adobe in the USA?

I have tried everything that I can think of. I have updated all of the drivers, firmware, Windows, & Adobe. I just keep finding more and more glitches. Is anybody else having these problems? Does anybody have any suggestions?

What format is your source video? What is the source?

Part of your problem might be that you’re only using 3GB of your RAM. You need to use a 64-bit operating system to use more than 3GB of RAM, so go buy a copy of Windows 7 x64.

“Part of your problem might be that you’re only using 3GB of your RAM. You need to use a 64-bit operating system to use more than 3GB of RA”

Not necessarily. I have a desktop with 3meg of ram 32-bits and CC4 runs well. Whats over, the same CC4 is installed in a Laptop with Windows 7 home 64bits, a 500g HD, 4gigs ram & ati 512mb video card (it passed ok the installation requirements) and Premiere freezes constantly, inclusive does not permit to save the job and lots of others interferences. So I concluded is W-7 the problem.
Thinking to downgrade to XP in the laptop!!

    [Hector Melendez] “a 500g HD”
This the only Harddrive in your system? You should have a separate dedicated drive for video files, using the same drive as the OS and apps can have problems even with separate partitions.

Aye, hard drives are so underrated when it comes to video editing by most people. You’re not going to gain hardly anything by going to XP; and maybe nothing whatsoever.
