I’m very new to Illustrator. How do I export an object I have drawn in Illustrator, bring into after effects but key out the background for animation in AE.

    Thanks

You can import the AI file into After Effects, than drop it into a layer.
If you have a closed path that outlines you subject in the Illustrator file you can use that as a layer mask in After Effects. Just copy the path in AI, than select the layer in AE and paste.
Do you need a mask, or could you just delete the unwanted parts from the AI file?
