For all you with “Out of Memory” errors in Encore CS3
This problem has bugged me all day.
I’m wrapping up this HUGE DVD project for a client, everything is going smoothly. I’ve already built this DVD and am now making some revisions.
I click Build… it stalls.
Try again.. same thing
So, i narrow the problem down to the transcoding business… I transcode manually.
ERROR! “OUT OF MEMORY! SAVE AND EXIT NOW”
Ya.. google didn’t help, adobe didn’t help
I set the 3Gb switch – nothing
Checked my codecs/priority – nothing
Re-imported the assets – nothing
Cleared my Media thing in regedit – nothingyou know what fixed it?
I opened a new project, named it something dumb because it was temporary, imported the files I wanted to transcode. Transcoded them (which it performed amazingly well).. closed that project, opened up my problematic one… and now it works like a charm.
?????????????? I’ve had my share of retarded work-arounds with pinnacle/avid products, but Adobe.. come on…

Adobe Encore: Come for the blue-ray, stay for the crash
This work-around is probably more of dumb luck…
because Encore is doing it again.
It refuses to build the DVD because it won’t transcode the AVI. So i manually transcode only to get “Out of Memory.”
Doubt it…
I’ve got over 2Tb HDD memory and 4Gb DDR2 RAM. I’m sporting a Intel Core2 Quad @ 2.8Ghz and Dual Nvidia 8800GT in SLI… I’ve got more memory than windows can shake a stick at.The worst thing is, this F’n thing has worked flawlessly until today. I haven’t installed anything wierd. I just reopened my project, replaced some clips, same codec / compression and everything…
I’ve tried multiple work-arounds and fixes… It’s real hit or miss, sometimes it’ll work, other times it won’t load, other times it’ll run out of memory, other time’s it’ll crash, other times it gives me some BS operating sys. error…
I’ve tried everything.
If I load the exact same clips that are giving me problems into a NEW project, they transcode fine… This was my original workaround, and now it’s not working…
Then it’ll work… then it won’t…
I’m pulling my hair out here… any ideas?

I know this sounds nuts, but i’m including part of a chat session i had with Dell on a ‘General Error’ from Encore that (just as your problem) started out of the blue on an existing project for no apparent reason. I’ll tell you up front, it’s a painfull process but it may help. After disabling anti-virus and jumping through the standard hoops when you call tech-support, we got down to the below. And believe it or not, it worked. There was an applicaton that, when disabled, solved my problem. Good Luck!

normal start up to revert all the settings back. Then you’ll want to
test with a different user account, just to see if the issue happens
there as well. If you find that the msconfig changes helped, then
you’ll want to head back to msconfig and systematically re-check to
enable the services and start up items to find out which one caused

I followed your instructions, and I was able to complete my project and hand it to my client!
Moral of the story = Encore does NOT play well w/ other programs/codecs/drivers
I haven’t found the culprit yet, but I will… and when I do….
haha

Great news Jon. You are the 3rd person who has been able to use this process to get Encore running on an existing project again. I’m glad it helped.

After trying everything in this thread without success, I finally got to build my project by right-clicking on all transcoded files in the project and selecting “Revert to Orignal”. This reduced my project from 1.5GB to 400K. The project then re-transcoded everything and worked perfectly. It took all that time to re-transcode, but at least it worked.

Wow, i posted this a while ago. I have been noticing some very quirky things with these Adobe Programs… Try right clicking on your C:/ drive (or whatever drive your OS is on) and clearing your TEMP files… haha.. this actually resolved a major problem w/ premiere one time…
Basically, Do everything in your power to make it as though Adobe is the ONLY program on the computer. As if you built this computer, installed adobe, and nothing else… Do that, and it’ll work fine.
Restart the computer, change all your Startup and nonessential program settings as mentioned earlier in this thread. Clean everything up, TEMP files, Recycle bin, old unused drivers, remove unused software, defrag, reboot again. If all else fails, completely remove anti-virus software.. I know that I ran into an issue with Kasperski interfering with Adobe one time.

I actually have done this a couple of times (less uninstalling the Virus Scan…)
Other issues I am having include the program hanging up trying to import something that just transcoded…
I will once again dumb down everything else going on in the background as much as I can….

What are you transcoding / importing?

Mostly quicktime .mov or windows .avi files. I am running CS3 on Windows XP Pro.
