im doing sound on a short film shooting on a red one camera next month

which will give me the best results? do i go from the mixer via a breakaway cable to the red or record it separately on my H4n and get them to sync it later in post.

and also if im recording to the H4n, would i go straight in to the H4n from the boom mic or go though a Shure FP33 mixer 1st then in to the zoom

    Thanks

Why not do both?…. record straight to the RED camera with a breakaway cable and also do a backup recording on the H4n.
If they use the RED audio it will save syncing time.
Feed the H4n from the tape out socket of the FP33 mixer.
I have used my H4n directly on a boom pole with a case made by “STRUT cases” this set up is great for a compact recording unit.

We do both. On board is a fine enough backup but the controls leave a lot to be desired. You’ll likely stick with your H4N audio instead.
