  • No Dolby 2 Channel sound in Vegas 6 + DVD Platinum ??

HI ive been trying to render a video as mpeg with just dolby stereo. Even Power Director has that feature. It renders any mp3 or whatever is in audio track as dolby digital 2.0 along with your video. So its completely DVD compliant. But a prog like Vegas 6.0 doesnt have this ??? Somewhere here on the forum i read someone saying you should select include audio or it will render only the video stream. Am i doing something wrong or this software cannot render to mpeg2 with dolby stereo ? I tried different render templates and even found that theres one template which renders out the mpeg 2 file. when i play that rendered video in power dvd player on the pc it shows in the info display as video stream MPEG 2 Audio Dolby Digital 2.0 But it shows 0 Kbps. And there is no sound thru the entire video. What could be wrong ? Please help ?

You need the full version of Vegas to get AC3 audio instead of a “move studio” version.

    hi jedi,

thanks for the reply. so if i get sony vegas 6.0 (thats the full version rite ?) i can encode into dolby 2 ? no strings or plugins needed ? and once i do that can i open the project in DVD Architect 3 and my sound wont go back to PCM (i mean will it still stay dolby). Thanks a lot for helping me jedi. i really really appreciate talking to someone who knows. ud be surprised ! even the folks at sony were giving me vague answers.

Actually, you have to get Vegas + DVD. The AC3 encoder comes with DVD Architect.

    HI Jedi ?

For even just 2 channel dolby ?? which even simple progs like Power Director 5 offer ?

But some say that Vegas 6.0 Full Version also has Dolby Digital 2 channel (Dolby Stereo). I have got VMS + DVD Platinum and there seems to be no option to render out an mpeg 2 with dolby 2.0.

Can you please demystify this for me. Is it that VEGAS + DVD comes with a DVD Architect higher than DVD Architect 3 (which is incl in VMS+DVD Platinum) ??

So even if i get VEGAS 6.0 full version i still wont be able to render MPEG2 with Dolby 2.0 (like with Power Director ??)

Dolby Digital audio is NOT included with Vegas. In order to get AC3 (stereo or 5.1) you have to get Vegas+DVD – the full version. The current versions are now Vegas 6.0d and DVD Architect 3.0c. It is a little confusing that the “Movie Studio” versions (standard and platinum) are so similarly named.

Your best bet is to purchase the upgrade from VMS to the full version of Vegas+DVD.

Oh I get the picture. Are there any options of getting an external dolby ac3 plugin to work within VMS 6 Platinum. Or if i buy V6 Full version ? Yeah you are right as hell they have named their products so confusingly. My brother owns Sony Vegas 5.0 In the plugins folder he says there are certain ac3 dll files. Will a copy paste kind of thing work ? LOL. Also i noticed that in my current VMS Plat if i want to render a WMV 9 file it allows only certain templates. It doesnt allow selection of WMV HD 25p etc. But the irritating thing is, It doesnt even notify you when you hit render that this facility is not available etc. It just blinks and the render window is back. What a user friendly approach heh ?

A copy/paste will not work. In fact, the AC3 encoder IS sold separately but I don’t know if it works in VMS. However, it’s so expensive you’re really just as well off to upgrade to the full Vegas+DVD – plus you’d get all the benefits of having the full version too.

I am told be a sony representative that even VEGAS + DVD will not encode dolby digital 2.0 (as power director does) They specifically say it will only encode Dolby 5.1. What on earth is that ?? It will encode to a higher end format but wont do 2.0 ??? I tried talking sense to them. But they just insist. Am i missing something real big here ? Because i am everyday repeat reading the sony site where it very clearly says “will enocode dolby digital 5.1 or stereo”. Whats all this all about Jedi ? Plz help. I cant buy something so expensive and then not have it do what i require. Because i have no need for 5.1 projects. Or HERES the REAL BIG question…..If i just render out from VMS PLAT into mpeg 2 with mpeg 2 sound and then i take this mpeg and load it into power director just to get it out in dolby stereo. I heard that mpeg 2 is not recompressed if we are just rendering out to the same format. Or am i wrong ? I hope you understand what i want to do. Just edit and produce good quality videos or dvds with dolby 2.0. Will this second stage render dilute the video quality ??

When you install DVD Architect, AC3 is an available option in Vegas. One of the options is “Stereo DVD” which will give you a 2.0 encode.

But then i can only author a dvd in dolby 2.0. I cant render an Mpeg2 file with dolby 2.0 so that i can play it back on my laptop for demo videos ? Can i ?
