No Dolby 2 Channel sound in Vegas 6 + DVD Platinum ??

Vegas will NOT embed the AC3 audio into your MPEG2 file if that’s what you’re asking. The AC3 audio is to be used for your DVD authoring.

OK Jedi. I have figured out a solution. What if i edit and render out as an mpeg2 with mpeg2 audio attached. Then i take this video into Power Director 5 and rerender as an mpeg 2 with dolby digital sound. Will the mpeg 2 go thru recompression and lose quality ? Ive heard some renderers dont rerender if its already in dvd compliant format. Or do you have any suggestion as to what is the best resolution and format i can render out from Vegas + DVD Platinum so that when i rerender thru Pow Dir 5 i wont loose clarity of video. Plz help with this. Id be thankful.

Yes.

What you will have done is compress the audio and the you will decompress and recompress the audio.

For the BEST quality: Render the MPEG video by itself. Render the audio separately as a WAV file. Convert the WAV file to AC3/Dolby. And finally combine the MPEG2 and separately created AC3 file.

No but POW DIR 5 wont allow you to render and ac3 audio file seperately. Can you plz tell me more specifically what i must do ? U mean i should render the video seperately in VMS+DVD Plat. Fine. Then take the audio track alone and drop it into the PD5 track and render out AC3 ? I dont think thats possible. What should i do.

No… not dumb. I just don’t have a definitive answer for you.

1) You can’t get AC3 from VMS Platinum – you need Vegas+DVD the full version.

2) The audio included in the MPEG2 render is NOT AC3

3) To get AC3 audio with the MPEG2 stream, you’ll need some other program that can mux the two together. I have no suggestions for you. Perhaps TMPGenc or VirtualDub or Womble or whatever…

Hi Jedi,

Just for the record i tried redering to dv-avi and then loaded it into PD5 and rendered out with dolby ac3. Worked fine. Visual clarity seems the same (at least to the eye)as what i saw in the original dv-avi. So i guess this was my only way out. But i wanted to ask you 2 smaller doubts.
1. How do i make the timeline come to the bottom of the workspace. Right now, all the tracks open in a window which is in the upper half of the screen. The Preview and media/transition tabs window take up the lower half. What if i want it the other way around. Cant seem to move the timeline window lower.

2. Somewhere down my project. I deleted 2 media files (audio). But i did so because im no more using them in my timeline. But still everytime vegas starts and auto opens my last project. It says those 2 files are missing and gives options to ignore and leave media offline etc. But how do i stop it from asking the same thing everytime the project opens.

There is a “hidden” way to do that the full version. However, that option is not available in the “Movie Studio” versions. Here’s how it’s done in the full version – but you have to be careful of the other “internal” settings.

Go to Options and hold down the SHIFT key while selecting Preferences. Now you will see a new new tab called “Internal”. Click on that tab. At the bottom is a “show only prefs containing” box where you need to type in “Dock”. Change the “Frame Dock at the top” from false to true.

Very simple: Open the Project Media tab and either click on the “Remove All Unused Media” button or manually select those two items in the Media Pool and delete them. Deleting them from the timeline doesn’t remove them from the “project”. Likewise, deleting the files off the hard drive also does not remove them from the project.

Thanks Jedi. Mine is not the full version. So i guess i wont have those shift internal settings. But this other thing i understood wht you mean about the media pool. The main link to the media is from the pool or bins. OK ill delete that then.

How do i stop those temp files acumulating. I used to work in soundforge where you could say dont show temp files and remove temp files when project closes or something like that. I find that whichever videos have been opened (even if they are not in use in the project have given birth to .sfk or .sfl files how do i stop these files or at least set them to autodelete when exiting the application ?

I just make sure I delete them when I delete the associated footage. After all, they’re in the same folder and will be right next to each other alphabetically.
