  how to render video so that it plays in modern browsers?

  I have a video which must be rendered as 640×480 and must be playable in all modern HTML5 browsers. So e.g. it should be possible to open in Chrome like this:
  file:///path/video.mp4
  and it should play (can be other than mp4)

  So far, I’ve tried 2 render settings in Vegas and both don’t play in Chrome (the first plays in FF and IE, the second only in IE):

  Adjusted “Main Concept AVC/AAC”:
  Audio: 128 Kbps; 48 000 Hz; 32 Bit; Stereo; AAC
  Video: 25 fps; 640×480 Progressive; YUV; 2 Mbps
  Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,000

  and

  Adjusted “Sony AVC/AAC”
  Video: 25 fps; 640×480 Progressive; YUV; 8 Mbps
  Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,000

  Is there any rendering setting compatible with all browsers and is generally considered safe?

  You are rendering using the two correct formats for internet content,
  you simply choose one of the “Internet” Templates without changing
  any of the settings.

  After rendering e.g. “Main Concept AVC/ACC -> Internet 480p 4:3” without any changes (not the size I neeed but anyway) I still can’t open the video in Google Chrome or FF.

  When I try to embed this video using e.g. videojs library, it plays well in IE. In Chrome it just doesn’t play. In FF it shows a message “No video with supported format and MIME type found”.

  Ooops the setting it’s actually the size 640×480. But anyways, it doesn’t want to play in the browsers.

  Chrome does not support the H264 codec anymore. To be able to view H264 encoded video in Chrome, you will have to install a microsoft plugin.

  So.. according to this: https://blog.videojs.com/post/35885627647/google-is-dropping-h-264-from-chrome only ogg and webm will be supported in major browsers. Ogg seems to be only audio, and I can’t find WebM format in Sony Vegas. Do you know if it can be added to Vegas?

  Chrome does support H.264 (moreover – it is hardware-accelerated) and Maria’s video from jsfiddle (as well as directly from dropbox) plays just fine in my Chrome (ver. 24)

  You should prepare 3 video formats – H.264, WebM and OGV (aka Ogg Theora) and read HTML5 specs about video tag
