Using Blender’s modeling tools when you’re used to After Effects

I’m learning Blender, the open-source 3D modeling and animation tool.  I’m very comfortable in AE, but every so often I need to use a 3D model and it can be useful to know how to make your own.   In the previous video, I talked through the interface and how it compares to After Effects.

In this video, I start with a cube and make it look like a rock (or a potato!) by using modeling tools like Knife and Bisect.  These tools are available in Cinema4D Studio, but are disabled in the included C4D Lite.  Once I have something half-decent, I then talk through the shading tools including the dreaded nodes panel.  We’ll look at procedural shading and adding a texture, before showing how to export a UV map and how to bake a procedural texture so you can import it for use in Video Copilot Element 3D.
