Spotlight: The Special Effects of Karel Zeman
Karel Zeman started his artistic career in Czechoslovakia designing advertising posters for a department store in Brno before he was hired by BaÅ¥a Film Studios in ZlÃn for his imaginative skills.
Zeman did not disappoint. From 1947 to 1980, Zeman became one of Czechoslovakia’s most famous filmmakers, inventing his own special effects such as leveraging spatial illusions with cameras, combining live actors and stop-motion, and other cutting-edge animation techniques for the time.
Karel Zeman died in 1990, but his inspiring legacy continues.
