sorry i should have also said, how i normally link to AMA is

Create bin – File – AMA Link – change file type to Quick time – find the folder on my drive and click open.

I find that working this way can be quite sluggish with large files. Although i have only ever worked withQT this way, maybe XDCAM will be more efficient? is there anything different i should be doing?

    thanks

    Hi Shane

thanks for your speedy response, massively appreciated

I was under the impression that the Canon C300 creates H264. is it just the compression that is H264 – if so that might be a problem as they are shooting on location and need to upload the rushes to me every night. will the file sizes be massive? it looks like 43mins of shooting(1920×1080 4.2.2) will create approx 23GB off data. Does that sound about right?

on the other side, thats better for me being avid friendly

so workflow wise, i’ve never had much luck with link to AMA and then consolidating. I find the AMA link too slow and sluggish – especially on an iMac. Please can you talk me through the process/options you use – it would be massively appreciated. I’m only working on an iMac for this project, although i anticipate that there won’t be much footage at all.

Exporting as a linked AFF Sounds a great idea, I’ll ask the Grade if they can work with that. alternatively if i do a mix down at Video Mixdown to DNxHD 220 – would that be high enough quality?

thanks so much for your help

    Zoe

  • Great thanks Jeff. The files been created now for the big upload

  • Hi Michael
    thanks

I am just looking now, yes there is BluRay H264, which looks great, however it says uncompressed 8-bit NTSC video. It won’t let me change those settings. The project was all shot at 24fps. is this going to cause a problem
    thanks

  • Hi there, thanks for the reply.

It’s just for a producers screening. the whole project has been edited at DNx36 so delivering for the screening at that quality is perfectly fine for this purpose. All they have told me is that they need me to upload a file under 20GB to burn to a BLueRay disk for the screening. The best quality i can create under 20GB. no more information.

I have compressor 3.5.3 – what settings would you recommend i use in this software? thanks for the help so far

ah okay thanks Michael, so would you suggest

I transcode everything in REDCINE X PRO to MXF 175, then edit in the avid. If so what Debayer settings would you suggest? Full isn’t viable because of time. however I could edit the sequence, once locked, send it back to REDCINE X PRO as an EDL, then conform the clips, then export as FULL, then back in to avid to do final grades. Or does that seem very long winded?

If you have a LUT that would be amazing, thanks so much. Your blog is great, i’ll look in to that as an option as well.

thanks Michael as always you are amazing

Also if i was going to export as MXF files, what debater settings would you suggest for quality and speed? Full quality looks like it will take 4-6hrs per clip – ouch

    Thanks
