Hmm. But it was weird because I didn’t change anything and everything was working fine before…then suddenly changed. So I closed out, reopened and the volume was normal again. This time I locked the audio track…

Hi Gary,
I am totally ready to start anew with organization. The project I have been working with, was never intended as the actual work project – I was trying to resolve the MP4 dilemma with the rendering and also experimenting with some new effects I wanted to try. I did figure out where to change the compression settings and I did that as Pro Res 422 Proxy – I was able to create a usable MOV file, however there was a green bar. Another post told me to try just ProRes or Prores HQ so I am going to see if those are export options on MPEG Stream clip, I’m guessing if they were recommended then they should be there. Another poster did refer me to an online manual source which seems great. I did find also instructions on how to set my scratch. I realize it is a pro software tool, however I have reached my limitations using things like MovieMaker. I started with an intro class over the summer and I was able to produce a good video using this software. However, I am well aware I have to get through quite a curve, but I am working very diligently to get there. Funny you ask about export options – I was just thinking that. I have had issues with getting a proper quality play back when exporting in a quicktime file. I was going to read up on that again as well. There are certainly challenges with this software and it offers far more than I even know, that’s why I always set a few goals when I start so as to learn without getting too overwhelmed. I really do need to understand some of the technical language better and that’s what I’m hoping to achieve, so that I can understand some basics of what I may have to do with various file types on a timeline, and the issues with compressions as far as exporting the projects go.

OK, have you tried saving a duplicate copy and opening from that copy and then trying your rendering there? I’m just suggesting that as that’s exactly what I had to do.

Ok thanks dude! I am checking out the link. As far as effects though, I am using Superimpostions and color changes, is that still a good setting to use Apple ProRes 422 LT if I am using those effects? I am also using a few distortions and maybe a few transitions.

Hi Rafael, I can pull up the codec information by simply right clicking on the MP4 file itself, if you mean the picture size it is 1280×720 and the codec is H.264 AAC. I’m not sure what you are referring to as “format” except for the format setting in the easy set up otion on FCP.
I did go back in to QT as you mentioned and exported it. I changed the compression setting to Apple Pro Res 422 (Proxy). I was able to get a file that I could import into the time line without red rendering, but there was a green bar there. There were several other Apple Pro Res Settings: Apple Pro Res 4444, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), and Apple Pro Res 422 (LT). Give my codec and picture size, are any of these more optimal?

Also, when I drop the clip into the timeline, in the version I am working in FCP 7.0.3, I do not get any prompt to match sequence settings. I have not even found where this information is available so I would not be able to tell if it’s any of those: 720×480, 720×486, 1280×720, 1920×1080.

Yes the DV-PAL looks like hell. However, MPEG Stream Clip does not offer ProRes as an option for conversion. I have yet to find an optimal solution for this. My original MP4 files are 10.5 MB and the codec for them is H.264, AAC and knowing this has still not helped me create an optimal working file…yes, I have found 2 solutions already, and I am going to try all versions of outputs that are available to me in MPEG Stream Clip to be able to see what quality they may output, however this really seems to be a very trial and error in order to find something that works. I wish it could be easier, but I have been diligently working on this now for several days and have put in countless hours already.
