YES I know I was explaining what a 4:3 image would actually be like if it was letter boxed. It would look like my explanation because it would be placed on a 16:9 timeline first.

That all depends on what for mat the video was recorded in on the firestore. I do not use I fire store so so don’t quote me on this but I don’t believe that it allows you to record in DVCPro HD.

Ether way you are working in Final Cut Express HD, and Final Cut Express will NOT work with DVCPro HD footage. You will need Final Cut Pro for that.

Do you mean put a 4:3 image into a 16:9 timeline, because letterbox is simply 16:9 with black bars on top and bottom, so if you put a 4:3 image into a 16:9 with letter box it would end up being a 4:3 image surrounded on all sides with black.
There are two ways a 4:3 image will go into a 16:9 timeline. The first is have the entire image show with black bars on the sides. The second way is to scale the image up and cut off the top and bottom of the image.

A lot of people I know are using iShowU, however I just saw a thing on some new software, that looks even better, I just haven’t tried it yet. Check out ScreenFlick.
Both of these options are cheeper then SnapsPro Movie Capture by $40-$50.

Install a clean OS and when it boots up it will ask if you want to restore from a time machine backup. Connect the drive and click YES.

YES a G5 would not have space for 4 internal hard drives, it only has 2 hard drive bays.

This really sounds like an issue you should have a technician look at, I would sigh up for a appointment at your local apple store.
