OS X itself does not have support for BlueRay Drives as far as I know. There for drivers from the manufacturer of the drive will be needed to use the blueray functions, otherwise the computer will only see and use it as a regulaer DVD rom drive.
By doing a quick search it looks like your drive is ONLY fully compatible with windows.

What model drive?

What are your sequence settings? And what type of video are you editing?
To me it sounds like your sequence does not match your video files.

When I archive all I do is print the master edit to tape and then save is the project files and graphics to CD/DVD (This includes FCP, DVD SP, Photoshop, etc etc files). As long as you logged and captured all your footage it can be recaptured and re-rendered.

I dont use that type of file but a 2 second google search provides several options. Like VLC & Perian.
Now because you haven’t told us what you have actually tried nobody here can be of any more help.

As you know FCP does not have a supper easy workflow for photo montages, so I actualy don’t use it for them.
Check out Fotomagico. You can do a photo montage in a fraction of the time with Fotomagico then with FCP.

Honistly the best thing I can recomend is making a appointment for the genius bar at the apple store. They have some things they can try to see what is causing the problem. Like booting from a external drive etc.

Here are a couple of things to try.
Hold down option while emptying the trash.
Pull the file out of the trash and then restart the computer into target mode, conect it to another mac and try deleating it from there.
Boot into safe mode by holding down shift while booting and see if you can deleate it then.
