    Joe,

There are lots of entry level video editing software packages. many of them are built in to the operating system. I’m a PC guy, so i don’t know much about macs, but if you use a PC, then even the built-in windows video editor will do a decent job. i’m sure mac os has something similar. your problem then becomes to get it into a format that your target can read. before, you mentioned ipad and now you’re talking about youtube. these are two different things and while some formats can be read by both, many cannot, so you may end up having to make two versions of your movie – one for each. i suggest you play around with the export settings on your editing software (start with either .mpeg or .mp4 as they will commonly play on anything). if you really can’t get anything to play, then you can always use another piece of software to convert your movies to the right format. there are a few of these and they are cheap or even free. two good examples are Wondershare and Pavtube, both of which have presets for just about anything you want to display on, including ipad and youtube.

    Hi Joe

This is an Adobe Premiere forum, not an imovie forum. Unfortunately, I don’t have imovie so I can’t help you there. Do you have Adobe Premiere?

I do have an iPad and I tried your settings for you. iTunes would not sync the file to the iPad and returned “… the movie was not transfered because it cannot be played on this iPad…”
On the other hand, I have been using:
    H.264, NTSC, 1024X768p, 29.97
    Baseline, Level 3.1, VBR 1Pass
    Target 2.04, Maximum 2.31
    AAC, Stereo, 48kHz, 128kbps
    MP4 multiplex, iPod stream
The iPad plays this just fine and the quality is very high. I have not tried to go higher to see what’s the absolute highest quality I can get because this is quite good and I don’t want to have a larger file size, but if you have something else you want to try, email me and I can test it for you.
