I was wrong, the only problem is the slight jump when the checkbox is checked and unchecked. I only tried it out on the upper part of an arm limb so that obviously conflicted with the lower limb ..

    Cheers Dan,

I gave that one a go and it did work to some extent. A few problems however, when the checkbox is checked or unchecked the limbs suddenly move position, also when the box is checked to parent effectors to torso and the torso is moved the limbs move a bit faster than it. To be honest I’m going to work with unparented effectors and just muscle through a few jump and flip animations my character needs to do.

    Thanks for trying..

I’m new here so take my advice with pinch of salt….

Are you using AE Text as a 3d layer with a light casting your shadows?

If you’re not and you are using the drop shadow layer style or plug in then turn that of, make your text a 3d layer and apply a light to the comp making sure the ‘cast shadows’ checkbox is ticked in the light options. Make sure your ‘solid’ that your wanting the shadow to fall on is also a 3d layer and make sure it has the ‘accept shadows’ box in its ‘materials options’ ticked or saying yes (can’t remember which) the shadow will animate with the rotation of the text on the background layer. Also make sure the text layer has ‘cast shadows’ ticked in its ‘materials options’ as well..

If you are doing this already then I’m stumped…

  • The kramer tutorial on v-pilot is a good bet, using bump maps and linking the comp light to the cc glass light, the effect is pretty awesome and the expression used is extremely usefull for linking effect lights to comp lights as they sometimes operate in different space.. also check out Dan Ebberts expression lab, there is an expression that links the distance of the light to the layers specular and diffusion properties making the light fall off realistically as the layers moves away or in your case get brighter as the light gets nearer to the layer, this will only work for the back wall of your tunnel and layers that are facing directly forward, side walls should already light up convincingly… no?

    hope this helps

ok, I’ve drawn two characters sitting on a sofa in illustrator. They are at an isometrical angle. I’ve then build a rudimentary room from 3 layers. I want to sit them in the centre of the shot on the floor and use a camera to do a pan across and a truck in. Problem is that the ideal place to put the layer containing the characters and sofa has part of the layer below the floor line. I’ve tried moving the layer up and i’ve tried moving it towards the camera but both just look like they’re hovering above the floor and the camera moves don’t look good, also the shadow cast is wrong also implying hovering

    does this help

sorry i wasn’t being clear, I need the layer to be visible even if something moves in front of it in 3d space, to stop a floor covering up a vertical layer when they intersect

    thank you in advance
