Ok so command+7 opens the ‘Trim Edit’ window; Is there a keyboard shortcut to close it? I’ve got more than 500 clips to edit so I’m trying to automate things. Mousing around ain’t gonna cut it. No pun!

    Thanks!

I have a couple of hundred clips that were created in AE at 640×480 ProRes 422HQ and have come across this same problem. I wish there was a better way to deal with this besides changing each one individually in FCP!

If you know a better way please let me know!

    Thanks!

    Hi Chad,

Thanks for your feedback. I’m not necessarily worried about interlace issues. My desire to convert the footage back to 24fps is for a few reasons:

    1. Produce flash files with the original film frame rate which in my opinion would approximate towards the “film look”.
    2. The difference between 30fps and 24fps is approximately 20% less frames per second. Which in turn means I have 20% less frames to encode which ultimately means I can get better quality “at the same bitrate” than if I had to encode all 30fps.
    3. Isn’t this the best way to tackle this workflow?

Also, how familiar are you with Sorenson Sqeeze? Please tell me why you are recommending it? Your experiences? Have you compared it’s results with any other flash encoder?

    Thanks!,

  • Hi Mike,

Are you still selling the Atto UL5D card?

    Thanks,

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for you’re feedback. I’m a service provider so I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience on how to author a title with RCE. I sounds like it RCE might indeed be proprietary software. I’m wondering if RCE is applied at the authoring phase or replication phase. You never know…I might get a call one day from one of those two studios to author a disc! 🙂

    Hi Michael,

I’m not referring to regular region codes. I understand RCE is an addition to those. Did you check out the link I posted?

    Thanks.

Hey Steve, did you ever solve you’re problem? Make sure you are using top quality stock to burn you’re disc. I’ve used Verbatim and Maxell for many many years with 0.01% failure rate. I’ve also had good results with Sony stock. I don’t mean to hurt any manufacturer’s bottom line but I’ve had bad experiences with Memorex, Ritek and other not-so-well-known brands many years ago and never bothered to go back and try. Maybe they’ve gotten better products recently who knows?…

    Keep us posted.

    Thanks,

    Hi Daniel,

We have existing AE as well as Final Cut Pro files that were created on a Mac which must be used to execute this project

    Thanks.

  • Hi Kevin, thanks for your response. I forgot to mention that I’ll be working with wide-screen footage. After looking again to both AE and PS I might have answered my own questions:

In AE I see a template called “NTSC D1 Widescreen” with frame size of 720×486 and a PAR of 1.21. Is this the one I need?

In Photoshop I see a template with the same exact settings as above. Use this one too, right?

Do I have to do any de-interlacing or any other mumbo-jumbo to the DBC footage before I bring into AE?

    Thanks!

  • Shane, thanks for your feedback. I’m going to share my findings with the forum in hopes that it helps others. Here’s how I got it to work using my existing equipment:

    MBP Firewire OUT to
my MiniDV camcorder S-Video OUT to
    CRT TV. And voilá!.

The above setup worked with both my Panasonic PV-DV953D MiniDV camcorder as well as my old Sony TRV340 Hi8 camcorder. Now, we all know that firewire can get moody. Once in a while, it decides to give you a hard time for no reason at all (does this behavior remind you of someone) 🙂 For about 3 hrs yesterday I couldn’t get FCP (on either of my two macs) to recognize either camera even though I used the Apple Firewire Easy Setup and changed cables. Long story short, I never found out what was wrong I just had to be patient and after a while it worked.

Both FCP and AE can output a preview (via firewire) to an NTSC TV as long as you properly set preferences on each app. Photoshop also can preview to a CRT TV via: FILE > EXPORT > VIDEO PREVIEW. However, it doesn’t update realtime. You have to update manually every time. To do this: FILE > EXPORT > SEND VIDEO PREVIEW TO DEVICE. Since I’m a big fan of shortcuts, I used Keyboard Maestro to create a shortcut for this.

Hope this helps anyone out there.

    Thanks again and good luck!

    Xavier
