open up your “Capture Scratch” folder in your FCP Documents. See if there are any duplicate files in there with an extension that says -av at the end of the duplicate files. Delete those suckers, and it may fix your issues. I posted this today:

Subject: mysterious AV files that make your hard drive space vanish and other problems

I’ve read many posts in here about strange problems with FCP crashing, or taking up too much space.

This has happened to me 2 times before. After trashing prefs and user data, the problem still existed. I was able to open up the “Capture Scratch” folder and look at all the files I captured. There were 1 or 2 files in there that were duplicates . . except they had the extention like this (for example’s sake I’ll name the video files WreckGar):

    WreckGar1
    WreckGar2
    WreckGar1-av
    WreckGar2-av

Those duplicate -av files were funky and were what was causing all of my problems. I simply deleted them, and all my problems were over. Has this happened to anybody else? The main problems they cause for me was making my hard drive think it only had 2 MB of space left.

Awesome responses all. But let me be redundant , just a tad.

Get the G5 now, so that when Apple releases the Intel Macs I’ll still have a good G5 while the Intel macs get all the kinks worked out. Plus the Intel mac will still not have all the software written for it, so it’s still better to get a current G5.

Then I read people saying I could just upgrade. Still being windows minded, I’m confused with this. I had always been told by people that you could not upgrade Macs from G4 to G5, etc. etc. That you had to restart and buy a completely new system.

So if I bought a G5 now, I could upgrade it to the Intel macs, cheaper than buying a brand new Intel mac?

    Thanks,

And yes, I’d also buy Photoshop . . whatever the latest version was when I decide to buy one soon, or wait till the intel chips hit.

    Final Cut Pro HD

    Combustion

    Motion (still learning)

    Live Type

IDVD, but trying to convince the office we need DVDSP

Those are all the programs I work with at work. So I’d want the similar system for my personal use. Similar strength that is, or more with the Intel chips. I already have people asking me to make commercials for their local companies too.

As far as audio programs go, I do not have any experience with them.

    Thanks,

BUT . . one opinion from some I would like is . . I’ve heard some say not to bother with getting a NLE system on a Lap Top . . and some say it’s the best thing since sliced bread. I nearly bought a G4 Powerbook with FCP on it . . then hesitated.
