    Thankyou for all your help!
I upgraded the system to 10.4.10, still didn’t work, so I upgraded Quicktime to 7.2, and finally its fixed.

Not sure what you mean…Software Update doesn’t offer me a updated version of QT. QT site only offers version 7.2.

It seems system 10.4.10 will run on my Powerbook…so I guess thats the first step/update to take?

Ah yes, this is the link I was just following regarding upgrading the QT.
    I’ve downloaded QT 7.2, but can’t install…
It wants me to now upgrade the system to 1.4.9 or later – it seems that version is for intel based macs, and I only have a G4 powerbook — am nervous about upgrading in case something else goes wrong!

Yes I recently upgraded to OX 10.4.6.

I haven’t used the firewire to capture video for quite a while, but it always worked fine before.

Thanks for the note about formating Jeremy.

Have tried the above, but still no luck. When I open FCP it gives me a message that it is ‘unable to find external devices – Apple Firewire PAL’

I’m looking into upgrading QuickTime, one of the trouble shooting sites suggests that may be the problem – have downloaded version 7.2, but as I’m running system 10.4.6, I can’t install the new QT!

Have been trying both a DV camera and also a Sony J-30SDI DigiBeta deck – no problem with the deck, they just took it back and tested it.
Have refreshed A/V devices, but when I try to set external video to it won’t allow me to. Its stuck on .

Using easy set up for DV PAL, did also try other easy set ups too…no results from any of them.
No other devices daisy chained – unplugging all other firwire devices was the first thing we tried.

  • Thanks Bret.
FCP won’t let me change the setting in the bin from square pixels.
Resetting the aspect ratio to zero in motion does the trick, but still leaves the clip needing rendering — looks like I’ll have to live with this.
