I know this is kinda off topic, but how do you like the XDCAM HD? Any noticeable problems with FCP? Which deck did you go for? I ask, because I’m trying to decide whether I should go for HDV (which is super cheap and a nice transition step for me to go to HD) or just make the leap to a “higher end” HD format.

On topic though, I would be upfront with the client because it sounds like they are in the same boat as far as being new to HD. Cut them a deal and say, we’re new to this so let’s go with our current rate for now. Maybe after a year or so of working in the format (depending on how successful the projects you do in HD for this client are) increase the rate by $10-$20. As far as brand new clients, I would have two different rates for HD and SD. At least that way, you could recoup some of the cost of the new HD equipment sooner.

April 4, 2007 at 4:00 pm in reply to: octo core mac pros finally announced

I think we a another year at least before they redesign the case. I know it wasn’t a total redesign, but it was fairly recently (when they moved to the Xeon) that they added more ports to the front, dual optical drive space, less fans, and more hard drive space on the inside. Though I know it’s happened before, I’d hate for them to redesign the case and loose any of those features just because the basic design is old. For me, they’d have to at least keep all of those major improvements before I’d ever be satisfied with a case redesign.

BTW I thought I remember reading somewhere that the design of these octo-core processors would be close enough in design to the existing quad-core that you could, in theory, replace the quad with the octo. Anyone read that, or was that just a dream?

I thought it was, but when I did a search in Creative Cow, I never came up with anything. I even had it search the archives….. I always search before I post cause there’s no point in wasting my time or anyone else’s for that matter if my question’s already been answered.

BTW, I had to look up what PITA was. Embarrassing, huh?!

Are these the steps to take on a non Intel based Mac for Title 3D? When I installed 5.1 on my Intel Mac Pro, I didn’t have FCP on it already, so everything has worked flawlessly with Title 3D, but when I crossgraded the G5 we have, Title 3D no longer works. We had to create a new user and under the new user Title 3D works fine. Since Title 3D came with FCP how to I reinstall just the Title 3D plug-in?

Yes I tried this, and it doesn’t work either. I can only get audio to play in FCP is if I change my play back to Built-in Audio which cause my picture to go out of sync.

OK, I uninstalled everything, and reinstalled the latest Kona driver from their website, and I still don’t hear any audio. Am I screwed and need to get a replacement?

I tried your suggestion and bypassed the kona, and I did hear audio. Sound like it might be the card….. I’m going to uninstall and then reinstall and see what happens (even though I’ve already done this!!!)

OK, I did just that and bypassed the kona card and went directly into the mixer and i heard audio. So, I’m going to try uninstalling the Kona drivers one more time and then see if I can get any audio. Any tips on the installation?
