When a client sends me something on DVD I like to use DVDxDV. It’s got some handy conversion features that I think are worth the price.

Careful, questions like this will sometimes get you flamed. I mention that because this is a pretty basic question, but I was once in your shoes so here goes. Something like this could probably be found in a quick search. 🙂

You don’t need to export out your titles from Motion. Just import the Motion file into FCP and place just like a normal clip in your sequence. This way if you need to change the animation of the title or whatever, you can just open the file in Motion, save it and it’ll update in FCP.

If you really do need to export out of Motion a QT file with an alpha channel, use the “Animation” codec, and make sure that it’s exporting out with “Millions+” colors. The “+” means alpha.

I don’t think it’s crucial to use it, but I know that using the animation codec will keep the integrity of exported Motion projects very well.

Just a suggestion here, but I might suggest next time making your Motion Project the same size as you eventual deliverable. If it’s for web make it that size, but leave all your footage it’s original size. You’ll either need to resize or crop your image, but this might help with the conversion; i.e. take out the variables associated with changing the frame size. Just a thought. Someone else here may need to correct me… but not in the creepy “The Shining” with Jack Nicholson way of “correcting.”

I’m not sure where the issue is coming from, but have you tried exporting an Animation QuicTime file from Motion, import that into FCP, render and then export?

I use DV Garage’s Conduit for DV and HD keying on an Intel Mac Pro and it’s terrific! DV Matte Pro, is good from what I hear, but Conduit can give you a lot more fine tuning capabilities. Try it out! 🙂

Thanks guys, but that’s what I was afraid of. I’m multicliping based on TC and it’s not too bad. I am running into a problem now though. Camera 1 Tape 1’s middle section clips are creating unstable multiclips that either won’t allow me to edit the multiclip (only showing one camera) or crashing FCP all together. Fun!

Silly in deed! Tt seems like from what I’ve read here, that most of Final Cut Studio’s team was too busy with Color and revamping the other apps to bother with DVDSP. Maybe at the Expo they’ll have a new update for DVDSP.

Oh, OK. I’ve always wanted to stay as Apple app-centric as possible, but I’d love to move on to blu-ray (especially for archiving). Maybe DVDSP 5 (whenever that comes out) will have Blu-Ray support?
