Bob, I think reposting the rules would be a great idea! Maybe that will get those posting “noob question” or “simple question” posts in the FCP Basics forum.

Are you using FCP’s built in text generator or Boris “Title 3D?” The built in text generator is weak, and only there for legacy. Title 3D is much better, more robust, and could possibly save you this trouble. 🙂

That’s it! Though I don’t have this (never really needed it yet) it looks like the exact thing you might be looking for.

I’m not totally sure how to get the Throw behavior to go crazy fast. Probably something where you have to manually adjust the numbers. I did a small test with the particle emitter yesterday, and got, I think, pretty close. If you’d like to take a look at it email me: della dot st dot media at gmail dot com.

When you say “gunfire-effect” do you mean like a tracer round, or the muzzle flash? I forget what the plug-in pack is called but there’s a company that actually makes those for Motion that would be perfect for a muzzle flash. If you’re trying to do a tracer round, or something similar, I’d think using a particle emitter would be better suited for that. It would have more controls and you’d only be dealing with one “object” instead of creating numerous circles.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Walter. The 1200A is the one he has not the 1400A. Hope you can get it to work!

Walter, I just remembered that an old friend of mine had this deck for mastering DVCPRO HD work (from FCP). He had told me that it wasn’t frame accurate, and that the master tapes he made would have to go to the local dub house to be frame-accurately re-dubbed for shipping. You could get it super close, but not truly frame accurate. He was doing this via FW, which I had always understood was the reason true frame accurate tapes could not be made. Is there any truth to this?

Forgot to add, we were using an AJA Io with RS422, not a capture card

I’ve been able to do an insert edit with a 2.5 G5 with FCP 5.x, using DVCAM, and a Sony DSR-1800A without any extra frames. Unfortunately, this was almost two years ago, and I haven’t had to do it since, so my exact procedure escapes me now. Sorry, I couldn’t be more help!
