Yes, the accurate answer is that SmartSound is bundled with the full version of Xpress Pro, but not the academic one. If it’s any consolation, I found that SmartSound, whilst a great ‘freebie’, is not as capable as a music library – I like http://www.audiolicense.net.
And Xpress/Media Composer is still the best editing interface around. -

No, Xpress Pro does not include SmartSound, so if that’s important to you, buy Liquid. The two products are quite different. In brief, Xpress is ultimately a better editor, with the traditional Avid ‘Media Composer’ interface, but a bigger learning curve than Liquid. For a new user, Liquid is faster to learn & includes many more effects, plus much better integration of DVD authoring.
