I am terribly sorry to revive this old thread.

But these expressions make no sense to me. I don’t know where to apply each parameter because it doesn’t list where we’re supposed to put em.

Can anyone provided an updated expression? Bulge isn’t what I’m looking for, or at least, can someone put this into layman’s terms?

  • I did wipe the preferences once before, but I didn’t use digital rebellions prefman. I may have to try that next, I’m hesitant to try to create a new user as IT frowns upon that but we’ll see if that’s doable.

I seem to be able to recreate the crash by exporting something in compressor, closing out of compressor, then going back into FCP, creating a new project, and begin a new tape capture.

Didn’t have that problem before, hopefully this machine isn’t dying on me.

    Charles,

It definitely sounds like you’re having frame rate inconsistency with your projects. Anytime there’s things like ghosting and horizontal lines, you could be:

1.) Exporting at the wrong frame rate.
2.) Exporting in the wrong field order.

In DV you have to start your export with Lower Field first, while with Progressive you need to start the export with Upper field selected first.

Also, unless the After Effects guy has Final Cut installed, using the Apple Pro Res Codec or the DVPRO HD codecs. It will not play on any machines without Final Cut installed, or money spent on codecs to play the appropriate files.

    Dennis,

To be honest a lot of the files seem very strange to me including the screen size as you mentioned. When the editor showed me a shot of the RAW .mxf footage, it was only 9MB large and only one file that was 1.34 GB. The file sizes, with the exception of the 1.34 GB, just doesn’t sound right to me. Unless the files are really low resolution or extremely short, why would they be so small?

So something is definitely not adding up, but not having seen how they captured the footage I’m not exactly sure what’s going on.

Shane this is EXACTLY what I thought was going on, I’m glad someone finally confirmed for me.

Yes, from what they told me they couldn’t view the .mxf files in Final Cut, so they converted it into an Apple Pro res file so that they could view it in Final Cut. When they tried to send me the file I just couldn’t open it with anything, and I just KNEW it had something to do with Final Cut.

I had a feeling I’d have to fork out some cash to download the appropriate plugins. Unfortunately, I’m doing this as a favor to the client, but I will link them to the websites you’ve sent me. Thanks a lot for this!

Ah yes! I misread, when you said RENDER don’t Export, I was confused. But then I realized you were talking about NOT using the “file/export” feature in AE and instead use the Render Queue.” Which is why I was wondering if I was going to need to export in a different format like Animation, instead of the Quicktime PNG.

No worries, everything is crystal clear now, I use the render queue for all of my projects anyway, way more versatile than the 1 at a time export feature. Quicktime PNG it is.

Thanks for all the help! Hopefully this will provide the results I’m looking for.

Yes this sounds like a good plan, I e-mailed the client back so hopefully we can try that out.

I can still export it out in Animation format and it’ll be fine on their end right? Or is there a different export that is more Final Cut friendly?

    Well,

Before spending 40 or 140 dollars I wanted to test out Raylight. So I downloaded the demo, but as soon as I tried to open the .MOV file it says that the license has been expired!

The kicker is that it did that for one file, but didn’t do that for the other. Which makes me wary of making a purchase, since I want a guarantee that this will work. Also the project I’m working on isn’t a paid gig unfortunately. So I can’t ask the client to pay for my codec because it’s more that I’m doing a favor for them.

I tried Super and I got the video to playback, but I couldn’t figure out how to get it to encode and export. When I did encode it, it would just make the file into a white screen which is the same problem I get on the Mac.

Wow, this codec thing sure is annoying!

Oh sorry, I have both platforms:

Windows 7 running Adobe Master Suite CS3
    and
Macbook Pro on Snowleopard running Master Suite CS4.

I’m going to try out the links you guys provided for me and see if I can get it working on ANY platform. If I can get it working on Windows that will be just as good as getting it working on the Mac.

I will update on the status once I try these out.

Thanks Walter, I thought something was up with the encoding. I’ll check over at the Premiere Pro forum and see what’s going on.
