I’ve got the same issues. Whatever you do, don’t buy CS4 until they fix CS3.

Adobe is the new Microsoft. Fat, too many frills, and very unstable. Not to mention the need to activate a product repeatedly. and like Microsoft, they just don’t seem to care.

I’ve been using Photoshop and After Effects for over twenty years and I’ve had enough – no more upgrades.

Apparently the engineers at Beyerdynamic and Shure have not heard this! Both the VP-88 and the Beyer 742 have the factory supplied splitter cables marked with “left” on the red and “right on the green. Everything else I own is red on right.

Luke, Sorry for the long delay in response – I guess I got busy. Anyhow, I don’t have another compatible card since all the other machines are Powermacs. And, of course, I can’t put the BM card in an older G5 due to the PCI-E difference.

The odd thing now is that, in addition to the slow screen re-draw, I’m starting to get screen corruption (old windows “sticking” to the second monitor) – but only when the BM card is installed.
I’ll be glad to give you some screen captures and a log file if that would help.

I’m fairly sure this won’t work. I’ve tried to record audio time code to a recorder and the reader had a hard time resolving the time code. I think it might have to do with the heavy compression encoded in the recorder. The recorder I used had no way to increase the bit rate, which was fixed at 128kbs stereo, which means the mono TC track was 64kbs. A much higher bit rate may yield satisfactory results, but I’d certainly do some tests.

Not on an EX-1, but a larger, shoulder mount camera will hit the back of the can. the 7506s are less bulky, or at least more narrow, than some of the other pro level headsets so outside of going to in-ear (earbuds designed for live music monitoring), the 7506s are the way to go. By the way, the in-ear option has become a lot better in the last few years but be prepared to pay double or triple the price of the 7506s. The better models will be custom fitted to your ear and should be as isolating as possible.

The markings on the mic next to the switch refer to:

lin – short for linear, as in linear frequency response, which means the circuitry not attenuate (decreased) any parts of the frequency range of the mic.

75hz – indicates that when the switch is at this position, the frequency range will be attenuated. This is useful for certain conditions such as wind noise or handling noise that is most evident at or below 75db. It is similar to the effect of pulling down the lower bands on a graphic equalizer. Also known as “low cut”.

-10db – this position attenuates the entire signal from the mic. This feature is useful for recording very loud sources that would otherwise clip the signal.

FYI – Some mics have two switches for these functions, one for “low cut”, often with a choice of frequencies, the other for attenuation, again with a choice of -10db and -20db.
