  • AE CS3 buggy & crashing – on import and layers disappearing, etc

    Message:
I have been working on an 8 core Xeon for 3 months with no problems. Suddenly, yesterday, AE CS3 started:

-freezing on select imports (2 files would be imported but the 3rd would cause a freeze)- have to force quit
    – layers in comps and timeline intermittently disappears – have to quit and restart
    – freezing on replace footage
    – footage intermittently is “missing” (when nothing has been moved).
    – AE changed the set frame rate on select movies

I’m going nuts trying to figure this out – if anyone has any systematic way to troubleshoot this, I’d be very grateful. I am in the middle of a complex project and, well, you know…

I’ve got the same issues. Whatever you do, don’t buy CS4 until they fix CS3.

Adobe is the new Microsoft. Fat, too many frills, and very unstable. Not to mention the need to activate a product repeatedly. and like Microsoft, they just don’t seem to care.

I’ve been using Photoshop and After Effects for over twenty years and I’ve had enough – no more upgrades.

    Primary System Info
    Mac Pro 2×3.2 Quadcore – 10.5.4 – QT 7.5 – 6MBram – nvidia8800GT – SATA internal & external storage – Blackmagic Multibridge Pro (v6.7)- Open GL 1.5.6 – Wacom Intous2 tablet

Same thing happened to me, AE stalling till a freeze and Force Quit doesn’t work.
However the problem isn’t AE… torrenting with Transmission in the background is.
Lay off the torrents and go to work, and please stop blaming AE… it always has
been extremely stable on my MBP.
