    Thanks Dave.
I definitely troubleshot (troubleshooted?) the field order and got the same result. I think I solved the problem. In Edit to Tape- Device Settings I accidentally had the Capture/Input set to AJA Kona3: 525 29.97 ProRes. Once I changed it to AJA Kona3: 525 29.97 10 Bit and then dragged the 1080 sequence on to Insert in Edit to Tape the down convert looked much much better. Still not sure what the problem is with the SD sequence I made by nesting the 1080 sequence with Upper Field selected into a SD (720×486) Sequence with Lower Field selected. When I play back the sequence in the Canvas it looks fine. Edit to Tape and then playback using deck control and a Panasonic Monitor looks very shaky and just all wrong. It’s strictly out of curiosity now as the HD down convert worked perfectly once I changed that Device Setting.

  • Hey thanks a ton Bret. There’s alot of good info in here. As far as workflow, I agree that using self contained QT’s is the best for DVD, but for a final master using compressor from reference QT is the way to go- more control over final product I feel. Plus, with my job Chapter markers are constantly an issue and adding them in DVD SP can be sort of a pain since it is most always an afterthought especially.

    Thanks Jeremy,

I assume you’re talking about the PCI Firewire Card. I came into this job only about 2 months ago and my predecessor had the IO and DSR-11 running simultaneously without problems. We did just upgrade both from FCP 4.5 to 5 and Mac OS 10.3 to 10.4. Could that have something to do with the problem suddenly coming up? Is the PCI Card going to fix it for sure? Is there a particular brand you reccomend? Thanks, again for your help.

    Rennie,
Just read your entire thread. I’m having the exact same issue. AJA IO running smoothly, Sony DSR 11 not being recognized. What’s weird for me is I had the same problem running 10.3 with FCP 4.5. When I installed After Effects 7 the AJA quit capturing in FCP. I had deck control but no image (i.e. QT problem) so I upgraded everything. Now the DSR 11 Is being recognized in the firewire port in system profiler but will not log and capture. Basically same as your problem with the Firewire Missing Message. Wondering if you ever got IO and DSR 11 to work together. What did you do? I’m going crazy over here.
Do I really need to buy this card? Ws your firewire fried? Did you see it in system profiler when you were having problem?
