Audition see’s it as 32K because that is what the original file was … When you E-mail it, there might be something going on when it is compressed again by the E-mail service … For me I would say it comes down to this, if it plays and sounds the way you want it to sound in every application you are using the files in then why be concerned about the sample rate … You can change the sample rate in Audition by bringing it into the EDIT side of the program and hitting F12, this will bring up the sample rate menu … Here is the definition of sample rate so I hope it will help you better understand why it really isn’t anything to concern yourself with if the file plays and sounds like you want it to … Enjoy your day ………. The number of samples per second. Higher sample rates produce increased frequency response but require more disk space. To reproduce a given audio frequency, the sample rate must be at least double that frequency. (See Nyquist Frequency.)

I have been using this program since C. E. 1.0 and yes like you have experienced dropouts but nothing like what you are describing … I am sure you have installed and re-installed but other than that and buffers I am at a loss here unless there is one of those Murphy inspired anomaly going on in your operating system… Please post when you figure it out ……. I guess my first question is why a 32K sample rate? Cd quality is 441 and video is 48K … I would check the software defaults …….. WILLIE

You still need to try the audio without the board and the board by itself … Worst case go buy a PCI soundblaster card and make that your default audio … After you do that run the in and outs as you had it before you made the minor blunder with the exception of hooking the output to the speakers through an A – B speaker switch … You the same Jon from Kentucky, if so write to me at loganonestudio@aol.com, need to talk with you ……… WILLIE

Plugging the output of your headphone jack into an input of the Mackie shouldn’t have hurt anything, so if something fried it was ready to go in my humble opinion … This is a hard problem to troubleshoot without being there … First CHECK YOUR CABLES!!! Make sure they are not damaged in anyway you would be surprised how many times I have been screwed by this one … Do you have an independant PCI soundcard or is the soundcard intergrated into the motherboard? Have you tried to reinstall drivers for the soundcard? When you tried to play audio from the line out did you try and go through the board? If you did try again without the mackie in the system … If the problem is still there I would say your soundcard is the problem … Using headphones, try running audio through the Mackie without it being in the system and see what you get … I have a friend that I set up with a live board and what we had to do was to put an off and on switch on the speaker outputs to turn them off when he was recording … I used a simple A – B speaker selection switch that you can purchase from radio shack … Let me know the outcome …. The problem that Audition has is that the CCE just isn’t that great and you can’t get it dialed in like the studio’s so any hope of pulling the voice out without pulling something else out isn’t going to happen with Audition, or at least I have never been successful with it … When I record drums I have 8 to 10 mic’s just on the drum kit … I think your best hope of getting a recording is to use 2 matching mic’s and try and place them left and right to get a good instrument mix, then take a left and right hard line out of the PA mixer to track the vocals, this way you have a chance to get it right … If it is all acoustic, then just take the feed out of the mixer … You can get a track of crowd noise by recording a separate track using a mic faced towards the audience … Live recording can test our skills that is for sure … In the studio I lay down a scratch track, then build the tune one track at a time starting with bass, then rythym, then anything else like keboards ect. then lead, with vocals being last … For drums I use a drum machine then record the live kit last … I hope this helps ………..
