Mike: Thanks for that suggestion. I did have the drivers installed, however the camera was not detecting the software. I reinstalled the drivers thanks to your link (Which I could not find on the Sony Support site)
For the first time in four years it is loading into Clip Browser via the USB directly from the camera. The only mystery yet to be solved is why the SXS cards will not load directly into the computer via the supplied USB/ SXS plug (slot for the SXS to slip into.)
Thanks to all of you. Perhaps this thread will help someone else as well.Mims

Yes, when I bought the camera I had the problem immediately so I purchased MxR Expresscard readers and started using 16GB SDHC cards. It has worked fine. (I am in the process of doing a project that needs to have the highest quality so I want to see how much better the SXS cards are over class 10 SDHC cards, before I move forward.)
I just tried using another computer to upload. Since I can record and then play back what was recorded on the camera. I know the Sony SXS card is recording. What Sony included in the camera package is a USB to a slot that one places the SXS card into in order to upload to a Clip Browser. Clearly this USB to SXS card is where the problem is. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have not tried transferring from the camera to the computer. I will try that, now. Don, I am going through your list and checking each one.
Don, Michael, Thanks.Mims

John I always appreciate your expertise. I am looking at this old thread as I consider the same problem of editing a feature length project. Where can I get more information on tips for editing a feature on Vegas 11? In the old film days it was easy to pull a dialogue track and picture track off the shelf and start splicing. Not so easy with a time line that is a mile long with 16 sound tracks. If I use the old method of editing ten minute “reels” and pre-rendering each, what happens when I want to marry them all together? Do I loose quality because once that is done it renders it again? Should I master to Blu-Ray for more GBs space? For the record I hate DV Architect 5.0 (The quality on final DVD’s suck) Is there another product out there?
Here’s what my system is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7CPU 2.94Ghz, 12.0GB 64-bit O.S. (4TB external HD’s)Running Vista 64

October 2, 2012 at 9:50 pm in reply to: Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle 2 SSD Video RecorderI am using Vegas Pro 11, and the ‘estimate’ I am doing now is to determine if the Black Magic shuttle will give me the quality I need for feature film work.

Zisis:
I let the battery completely discharge and in came back on charging to be four lights. That worked for a while and now it has gone back to only charging up to only three lights. (?) In the ‘old’ days of Betacam SP NP-1 batteries, when this happened, I would take a paperclip and short out the battery to a discharge of below 11 volts and then recharge to get full charges again. I don’t think that will work with these newer Sony batteries. Rather annoying not to find some magic bullet to fix the problem. I have a Swit battery that is much bigger and after 3 years, seems to be bulletproof. They are under $ 200 and I think a real bargain for the amount of recording time they put out.Mims

Do I get that from Sony Vegas download site or XDCAM site?

Mike, Steve:
Thanks. I found the GPU, and it was already turned off so that is not what is slowing (or Jerking)the video preview.
Steve, thanks for your encouragement.
Yes, and I do love Sony Vegas. No more splicer razor cuts!Mims
