In the Project Settings, the Master seems to be set to Stereo; If I change that to Mono in the Project Settings, do I need to add 3 mono tracks in the listing and DELETE the unused stereo tracks? (I was going to add 1 stereo music track.) Or, just add 3 mono tracks to the listing in the Project Settings?

    Hi Jeff,

    You said:
    >Is your Pr sequence Master track 5.1 instead of stereo?

I’ve looked in the project preferences, and under the audio tab there is a reference to 5.1 Mixdown Type with the options Front+Rear; Front Only; Front+Rear; Front+LFE; and Front+Rear+LFE.(mine is set as “Front+Rear”)

In the default track format, the options are: Use file; Mono; Stereo; Mono a Stereo and 5.1 (mine is set as “Use File”

There are 3 mono tracks 1,2,3 and three Stereo track 4,5,6.

I’ve looked at the Audio Mixer and see no designation. I’ve looked at the add tracks dialogue tab and “stereo” appears to be the default “setting” with other options, such as Mono and 5.1.

The Default Sequence settings are the Master is Stereo, with the options of Mono and 5.1.(mine is set to Stereo) The list of tracks is 0=Mono; 3=Stereo; 0=5.1

And yet, I thought I added 3 Mono tracks, and the small speaker icons are single speakers with no audio in the stereo tracks and the audio waves look to be the appearance on mono audio.

Should I add 3 to match the mono list of tracks. Or, something else?

Sorry for the tour, but perhaps you’ll spot the contradiction.

    Thanks so much, Jeff.

    Hi Jeff,

    You said:
    >Are you trying to export 2-channel audio as multichannel?

The original vid/aud was 16:9/mono. I just dropped the selected clips into a mono track, making no adjustments with the Master track.

I know originally, that the setup had called for stereo audio, but inserted a couple of mono tracks, and just dropped the clips into vid1 and aud2. I do remember unlinking a few clips and deleted the video to have the audio stand alone. I also offset some opening audio under black, before introducing the video.

I do see that the audio in preferences is set for 5.1 Mixdown type=front & rear. To be truthful, I’ve never set this particular preference before. The original footage is mono. I see that Source Channel Mapping is set as “use File”, but also suggests mono and some other settings, like “mono as stereo”. There are some stereo tracks I’m not using. Not sure what to check.

    Thanks so much,

Are you speaking of the project “preferences”? I do see it is set for 5.1 Mixdown type=front & rear. To be truthful, I’ve never set this particular preference before. • Danny, you said

    >Just place your clip on the timeline and select it.
    >Then click the “effects” Tab (next to the source monitor tab) and >click “Motion”. That will give you a Scale option as well as >Position and Opacity options.

    >Scale the Talking Head video to what you’d like and you can even >Keyframe the position to move where ever you’d like.

I’m wondering if you could give an example of how to describe the path of the image through the frame in the motion section of the effects tab.

Also, I’m wondering about the position of each small video in the timelines. If I were to have a background image in Video 1 TL and were to place the “motion” video in Video 2, wouldn’t Video 2 cover over the background image in Video 1 TL?

Since the images are “decorative” in a certain sense, I’m wondering how long to run them. Seems to me 3 secs would be minimum. I guess it is a matter of taste.

  • Hi Danny and Alan, and thanks,

What I would like to do is to have these smaller, reduced frames with video of these folks talking (there are 6 persons), “fly in at an angle and across” SLOWLY and out of frame, leading to the title card and shortly before settling on the person who introduces the storytellers.

Can those smaller frames with moving video of the storytellers talking be beveled like with the still frames?

    Thanks very much.

Thanks for your reply, Vince. Some of my friends use JW player, but I’m doing the film-for-the-web for a friend/academic, but she has to deal with some very “independent minded” IT folks in her faculty. They don’t talk much to her, so I’m going to have to give them a total outline for streaming. AND I’m not a web-designer. So, it may not be the best solution, but I thought if I gave them the video in AVI with burned in text, they couldn’t mess it up, or object too much. I don’t think they’ll go for U tube.

    Thanks again.

October 14, 2009 at 12:09 pm in reply to: Video Output export to tape to older VX1000

Folks – thanks so much for the replies.

I’ve tried following through each setup instruction of CS3 – project and preferences. These “look okay”.

I also created an AVI movie which I then imported into “Movie Maker” and still got no images sent to the camera, though the programme recognized and could control the VX1000 camera as did CS3.

I then copied the short avi movie to a memory stick and moved it to a second computer. (I have my edit computer offline from the Internet – don’t know how important that is these days.) I used the same firewire cable to connect the camera to the second computer. Opened Movie Maker and voila – instant recognition of this older camera. I played out the avi files as a movie output using Movie Maker, and it was transferred, albeit, the audio and images were not as precisely synchronized out as with CS3. But I did get it to tape.

But I don’t want to have to do this in the future. It was a short lead-in (music and text image) to be added to a pre-existing tape in post, so the sync wasn’t a big problem. Still, in this latter second computer scenario there was no problem with the firewire cable. The image did not play on the VX1000 while I had played it in the MM timeline, but the image was visible while recording to tape.

I’m a little lost in this at the moment, but as I mentioned earlier I was mainly preparing video for application to DVDs, and just didn’t have to record to tape. Perhaps there is a conflict of which I’m unaware on the other editing computer, but I was running no other programme at that time. Will have to think further….I guess.

If anyone gets any “glimmers” or suggestions, let me know – and thanks so much.

I’ve checked the manual for the VX1000, and your remembrance is accurate. CS3 in export to tape mode does control this camera device in just that way: it turns on recording in the pause mode and then starts to roll the tape after a short time – BUT there is no video signal flow received to record from Premiere. CS3 does recognize the correct in and out points.

I must be missing a setting somewhere in Premiere to flow the video to the camera. I think the last time I did record to tape, it was in 6.5 – but I did get a video signal into the camera. I remember that much.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

The tape was already shot on BETA SP NTSC(it appears to have been in a studio – a very large green screen BG).

I ran into a singer and her husband and they want to make a Music DVD for their church. It is lower than a low budget production. I’m just trying to help them as they are immigrant people from Central Africa. They are well educated folks, but know nothing about production.

Anyway, I figured it was time to learn how to do this anyway.

But, I don’t have after effects, and have Premiere CS3 and Encore. If I can find a deal on CS4 can they be integrated? Or, do they need to be?

    Cheers,
