Embedding Subtitles/Captions
I finished editing a 20 film using PPro3’s basic functionality. In accommodating persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, I created subtitles in “Subtitle Workshop” and carefully synchronized them to an AVI output file exported from the timeline. The subtitles can be saved in almost any subtitle format, including one for Encore. i.e. TXT, or SRT, SUB, SSA, many others, etc).
But I’d like to EMBED the subtitles in the output avi video file, so the final video file will contain the movie with the merged subtitles/captions.
Why I want to do that is that the video will be posted on a school website, and there is little/no encouragement to create online subtitles/captions.
How can I do that?
I have an accurate script and a synch’d subtitle file and could manually cut & paste or type into a number of title files and adjusting the timing, I suppose, but that would involve a couple of hundred title files.
Any ideas appreciated, maybe there are other approaches I haven’t thought of.

Easiest way: Youtube.
They take in a few different captioning formats.
Other more elegant solution: Long Tail’s Flv player will accept TT (and I believe SRT) captioning formats. It also happens to be a very good player for online viewing.
Pretty easy to implement as well if you know a bit about web design.

Thanks for your reply, Vince. Some of my friends use JW player, but I’m doing the film-for-the-web for a friend/academic, but she has to deal with some very “independent minded” IT folks in her faculty. They don’t talk much to her, so I’m going to have to give them a total outline for streaming. AND I’m not a web-designer. So, it may not be the best solution, but I thought if I gave them the video in AVI with burned in text, they couldn’t mess it up, or object too much. I don’t think they’ll go for U tube.

A workaround could be to burn a DVD with the titles in Encore.
Play the DVD on a desktop DVD player with the titles and capture the movie again in PremPro via a camera with analog input and firewire output.
Then create again the DVD with burned in text.Good luck
