    Thanks David, but

We finally have decided to buy, due to our existing gigabit network architecture, the MetaLAN server (and MetaLAN clients) software solution. After discussing with Tiger Technology B. Lamborelle and our Tiger reseller in France, DID Technology, we think that’s the good choice.
    (our) main reasons :
    – Block-level connection (and not file only file-level) for best performance on our network
    – after-sale customer service and reseller here in France with technical support
    – not “near Beta” product
    – reel Avid project support, “ISIS like” for editors
    – upgradability with growing cluster storage and number of editors/stations.

however, I will try VidSharx for a 2 stations “on-the-road” mobile editing solution, without a server.

I will give you a feedback here after testing (and more important : working !) with this MetaLan choice as soon I can, at the end of april or may I think.

Thanks for your answers and advices,

    William.

It looks a very good idea, and bin locked seems to be ok.

I just have to create a Ubuntu Server with a PC and my RAID system. Maybe I will try.

    Thank you,

    William.

  • Of course for RAID 0 for speed, but as he said he lost data a few days ago, I advised a little security 🙂

  • Using only 1 disk is not a good idea. One of our stations is exactly like yours, and works easily with multicam projects.
The key is fast access and speed for the drives.
Add 3 disk in your raid rack, configure in RAID5 and format in Mac File system, you will have a “new” avid !

The main problem I see with Vidsharx is on their tutorials : “For now, the bins and folders are NOT locked to specific users, so be very careful not to delete or change another users folder or bin/sequences etc.”

My editors are very good but there is too much risk to corrupt a “friend” bin accidentally, no ?

Bob, have you tried it ?

I know them, but we are on 10.8.3 and they are only (for the moment) Lion (Not Mountain) compatible.
Anyone has tried it “really” (I mean with real shared projects, editors, and long time ?)
