Jaap – I need to purchase a camera, too, so it’s open. I’m currently using an HDR-FX1 so working in HDV. Will be looking for something similar but newer.

OK, sound advice for someone with my level of knowledge.

Next thing is finding a reputable system supplier in the UK. Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me so quick.

Well, it depends how important it is really. We may be able to stretch to a few grand if absolutely necessary.

It has been suggested that we go with a couple of Samsung SyncMaster 2433s (currently preferred by our IT department for more general use throughout the company) at around £200 each until we have properly seen off the effects of the recession, then invest in a single broadcast quality screen in the £2000-3000 bracket.

So we’re not a million miles off your recommendation. What do you think?

I’ve been having the same issue. Such a frustrating day, trying all sorts to make it work: copying clips into new sequences and re-rendering; reconnecting the media; exporting as QuickTime without conversion… nothing worked.

I then tried replacing my PNG caption slides with TIFF versions. Amazingly, it worked.

It feels like a huge victory but is frustrating nonetheless as I’ve wasted half a day. Still, now I know to go with TIFFs over PNGs where possible so hopefully I won’t get the same thing again.

And I hope this helps anyone else who stumbles across this forum post. Let me know if anyone manages to solve the same problem by switching file format for stills.

Sound issues with the G2 resolved after further practice and MDR7506s now on order.

    Thanks, Ty.

Since this discussion I have found this link on another part of CC:

It’s a must for first time G2 users.

Yep, appreciate that. In due course I’m sure we will invest in a pair of MDR7506s. Thank you for the recommendation.

I was using some Sennheiser PX200s that were lying around, which I know is not ideal… while I could hear hiss quite clearly I couldn’t make out the distortion that was clearly occuring. I have found isolation earbuds much better actually, but have never seen pros using earbuds… probably for a very good reason! Anyway, point taken – pay more attention to sound quality pre-record.

One thing that I’m learning is never just go with it – try make sure it’s right first time. Also, don’t be afraid to ask the subject to redo something if necessary.

    Thanks again.

Looks like a rookie error, then – need to check the levels on the transmitter and receiver before the levels shown on the camera. Thanks for this. Thankfully the sound quality is passable but next time I want it perfect!
