Yes, I know about the “rental” and it’s definitely an option, but not so much for me. $49 one time for Compressor 4 vs. $49 per month for CS just to get the conversion component is not viable. If I decide to switch to CS rather than FCPX, the subscription idea is appealing.
But at this point I’m sticking with FCP7 and interested to know the real-world improvements of standalone Compressor 4.X vs. 3.5.3.

The full CS is a bit beyond my budget, perhaps if there is enough work to justify I could “rent” it.
My MBPRO takes up to 8GB RAM as I understand it, and it’s always nice to max out so maybe I will.
But I’m Still wondering if the newer Compressor– at $49– would make a difference in some way.

If you had Autosave set up, try looking in the Autosave vault for the last autosaved version.

Individual sequences with common frame rates can be added individually onto the DVD. But if you need to merge different frame rate clips on one sequence I find it’s better to convert the slower rate clips up to the higher clip rate.

29.97 for all. The 23.98 won”t suffer much by adding frames and the 59.94 should look smooth as silk.

As I understand it, partitioning is not the same as a separately spinning disk that carries your media and another that runs the Mac and apps.
Firewire is plenty fine for editing ProRes 422 HD files, especially if your external drive is a RAID 0 or better. RAID 0 drives are high capacity and cheap these days. I’ve been using FW and RAID 0 drives for years with far less powerful Macs than yours. No inherent reason for crashing at all.
