Hi Bryson,
Yes, the poster frame is automatically printed – however, sometimes it’s not the representative thumbnail I would like to be used.
We export our XML and videos files from CatDV to our online library, so the thumbnail image CatDV uses is automatically used as the representative image online. Sometimes the image is someone in the middle of a soundbite and this can be both not very useful and not flattering! 🙂

You know what? I think you’re on to something! Gears are running now, going to suggest a compromise. Thanks for your input! 🙂

Ah, that’s a good point. Then it may just be easier to break it up in QT first and then import into CatDV, as we’ve been doing. Can be rather time consuming though.
The editors here are against the idea of breaking up the clipreels! 🙂 However, from an archive perspective if someone needs a shot of tuna underwater and the underwater footage is 15 minutes into a 20 minute clipreel, then it makes it more difficult for researchers. Also, we have clients in areas, such as the Congo, with very low bandwidth, so downloading 20 minute clipreels for 20 seconds of footage can be a pain.
Trying to find a solution everyone will be happy with. 🙂

Hi Miguel,
Unfortunately, we were never able to set this up properly. I ended up being able to get the files to convert to my settings and export (they would only export to the desktop), but could not get them to upload to FTP. Almost half the files that DID export have an IO error, so I had to re-export each one manually from CatDV.
Hopefully, you’ll have more luck! You could start by sending your worker log to: support@squarebox.co.uk

Hi Henrik,
Go to: User/Library/Preferences/ and locate your CatDV preferences file. Drag a copy to your desktop and send it to your other computer.
On the other computer, place this preferences file in the same place on that system that you got it from on the other. (User/Library/Preferences/) It will overwrite your existing preferences file.
You may need to have your license code handy as CatDV will lose the registration so you will need to re-register. Once this is done, CatDV on both computers should have exactly the same fields and layouts.
I hope that helps,

The .mov file name, that is.

Ah, we were sending CatDV XML Files, but they weren’t sure which field to use. I’ll let them know they can find the .mov name in the MEDIAPATH field. Cheers!

Hi Rolf,
I tried exporting the CatDV XML Indexes, but the Import Source field is not there.
We are sending video files and XMLs to the company that hosts our online photo and soon to be video database and they are not able to match up the video with the correct XML file. The only information they have for the video is the .mov name so it seems Import Source would be the correct field for them to correctly identify the video to its XML. Do you agree? Should we be going about this in another way?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your input! We did send our preferences to the US office and oddly, only about 50% of the fields/preferences are the same. Not sure what happened there, but we can try again. (?)
With that being said, we have come to find that there are some fields that aren’t going to be the same anyways. (We have production numbers, the US office does not, etc.) I remember seeing a tutorial where different clients expected different information from the same clip and this was doable (perhaps with the Worker Node?). If there is an easy solution in 9, than perhaps it’s worth the investment for us to upgrade.
Cheers,
Whitney
