    An update:
After testing out the software more, I realized it’s not crashing if I use the Pan/Crop tool, it’s crashing if I use Pan/Crop on TITLES. So basically, everything involving Effects, Media Generators, and Transitions causes it to crash.

Does anybody know if there’s any way to fix this??? I contacted Vegas but they said I was routed to buy the Support Plan! That makes no sense. I bought the software brand new and can’t edit anything! Is there any way around this?

OK, it’s gets even more frustrating! I opened Vegas today to edit a project I was working on earlier and the moment I added two pieces of TEXT to the video, it crashed. Again! It’s becoming so random!

Here’s what the error description says:

    Description:
    Stopped working

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: CLR20r3
    Problem Signature 01: vegas110.exe
    Problem Signature 02: 11.0.0.371
    Problem Signature 03: 4e8211d3
    Problem Signature 04: Sony.MediaSoftware.VideoEffectsUI
    Problem Signature 05: 11.0.0.371
    Problem Signature 06: 4e82117f
    Problem Signature 07: 53b
    Problem Signature 08: d
    Problem Signature 09: System.NullReferenceException

It doesn’t always have this particular error message though. Sometimes it says the Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

Does anybody have any ideas as to what’s causing Vegas to CONSTANTLY crash like this whenever I do anything more than just clipping the video?

Thanks Mike! I took your suggestion and tested several rendering file types and noticed differences too. I also noticed differences based on what the original source file type is as well. I guess I’ll have to try several combinations to see which works.

    Thanks for your response, Dave!

It happens on all projects and there are no common effects. I noticed it’s also happening with pan/crop as well. Ahhhhh! It just happens when I spend some time on an effect/pan/crop activity.

For example, I add Color Corrector effect and
    1. make color changes (app ok),
    2. make saturation change (app ok),
    3. make gamma change (app crash).

    I use pan/crop
    1. zoom in keyframe1(app ok)
    2. zoom out keyframe2(app ok)
    3. rotate keyframe3(app ok)
    4. zoom out keyframe4(app ok)
    5. rotate keyframe5(app crash)

It’s really weird, I downloaded the program directly from Sony.

I tried setting the Sharpen level to MAX. The preview screen showed the edges very clearly but when I rendered it, the final movie file did not have ANY edge lines at all. It looked exactly like the original video without the sharpen effect.

    Hi John,

I’ve been trying the converter on a number of other video formats this past week and they work fine so there must be something strange with the WMV files I have. Regardless, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help!!! All your advice was GREAT!

I recently found a new issue during rendering where the Sharpen Effect doesn’t appear after the video is rendered but since this is so off-topic from the original thread haha, I’ll start another post.

Thanks again for all your help!!!

    Hi John,

Sorry it took a while, was having internet connection problems! I just downloaded the converter and tried to convert my WMV files into the M-JPEG/PCM/AVI settings but it kept giving me an error message saying the program stopped working.

Here are the Steps I took:
    1. Went to File and Opened the WMV file. It’s playable in the preview screen.
    2. Selected the settings as specified in your last post.
    3. Clicked on the left-most SAVE icon.
    4. An error message comes up saying that the program stopped but it didn’t provide much detail on what the issue is.

Did I click on the right button in Step 3? Did I have to do anything else first? I just want to convert the entire clip.

    Thanks, John!
Let me try converting the format of my videos! I think my converter supports WMV to Motion-JPEG but it won’t let me customize the audio to PCM, do you have any good recommendations on video converters?
