Adding Effects Keeps Crashing
Posted by Wendy Lam on January 30, 2012 at 3:31 pmHi!
I just got Sony Vegas Pro 11 and for some reason it keeps crashing A LOT whenever I start adding effects to the vid or use the pan/crop tool with keyframes. The error message is the usual, unspecific “program encountered an error…have to close.”
It looks like it could be a memory problem, the program doesn’t crash as much when I first open the program and start editing. But after about 15 min of editing, it starts crashing and when I re-start the program to add back the effect, it crashes again right away.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

January 31, 2012 at 6:33 amDoes it crash with any project you work on?
Or only a specific one?
Have you noticed if it’s a common effect you’re adding that causes it to crash? For instance, if you’re using a plugin and there’s a bug in the plugin, that could take down Vegas every time you use it.

January 31, 2012 at 8:30 pmThanks for your response, Dave!
It happens on all projects and there are no common effects. I noticed it’s also happening with pan/crop as well. Ahhhhh! It just happens when I spend some time on an effect/pan/crop activity.
For example, I add Color Corrector effect and
1. make color changes (app ok),
2. make saturation change (app ok),
3. make gamma change (app crash).I use pan/crop
1. zoom in keyframe1(app ok)
2. zoom out keyframe2(app ok)
3. rotate keyframe3(app ok)
4. zoom out keyframe4(app ok)
5. rotate keyframe5(app crash)It’s really weird, I downloaded the program directly from Sony.

February 2, 2012 at 3:37 amOK, it’s gets even more frustrating! I opened Vegas today to edit a project I was working on earlier and the moment I added two pieces of TEXT to the video, it crashed. Again! It’s becoming so random!
Here’s what the error description says:
Description:
Stopped workingProblem signature:
Problem Event Name: CLR20r3
Problem Signature 01: vegas110.exe
Problem Signature 02: 11.0.0.371
Problem Signature 03: 4e8211d3
Problem Signature 04: Sony.MediaSoftware.VideoEffectsUI
Problem Signature 05: 11.0.0.371
Problem Signature 06: 4e82117f
Problem Signature 07: 53b
Problem Signature 08: d
Problem Signature 09: System.NullReferenceExceptionIt doesn’t always have this particular error message though. Sometimes it says the Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Does anybody have any ideas as to what’s causing Vegas to CONSTANTLY crash like this whenever I do anything more than just clipping the video?

February 8, 2012 at 1:38 amAn update:
After testing out the software more, I realized it’s not crashing if I use the Pan/Crop tool, it’s crashing if I use Pan/Crop on TITLES. So basically, everything involving Effects, Media Generators, and Transitions causes it to crash.Does anybody know if there’s any way to fix this??? I contacted Vegas but they said I was routed to buy the Support Plan! That makes no sense. I bought the software brand new and can’t edit anything! Is there any way around this?

February 8, 2012 at 3:15 amSo if it’s only with TITLES have you tried using the legacy text option?
The New Blue Titler apparently has some bugs in it that are being rectified.

MANY bugs that are being blamed on NewBlue Titler Pro can be resolved by either 1) using a compatible video card and 2) updating to the most current video driver.
NOTE: To find the most current driver, you MUST go to the manufacturers website and search from there. If you go into the control panel and simply “check for updates”, most often it will tell you there is no updated even though there may have been several updates.
There are still a few issues being resolved and I expect an updated build sometime this month.

June 5, 2012 at 4:58 pmThis isn’t confined to titles. Just about any transition or effect I apply to video causes random crashes about 80 percent of the time.
I’ve tried turning gpu support and “undos for fx param changes” off. No change in problem.
It’s making Vegas unusable.

June 5, 2012 at 5:10 pmI discovered another post that noted running Vegas in Vista compatibility mode can serve as a workaround.
Seems to be working for me thus far.
