Two things, first try to export to compressor and use settings for dvd of HD dvd your choice. In this set up FCP and Compressor work on project as FCP is the sourse and Compressor scans files and converts. Tho other option is to export a QT movie at highest resolution, then use compressor to give you DVD compression and I usually select streaming video for QT 7 and let compressor make 5 steaming QT files. Hope this helps.

First I would put together the tools I have and think of people to help you as in asking for ideas from this fourm. Maybe you have friends that have a band and could do the sound track. Maybe you know 4 hot women to play customers. I would try to tell a story in 30 sec. Start with a phone call order pie. Owner makes pie. Customer gets pie. Is happy. You constantly repeat name and phone number add a joke or two between workers and customers and you create a mood. I like present day time frame and keep it real and shoot at location. Good Luck hope this helps. Try story boarding your story and your more likely have a spot that will be easy to cut.

April 3, 2006 at 7:20 am in reply to: Copyright for High School play that has already been shotYou own the tapes as you purchased them and recorded the play. Demand that they be returned to you as they are your property. Next the play was licensed as a performance only. Your tape does not break the law. It is only against the law to sell the tape. You can make copies and give them to the actors for there personal use as a momento or a way to view thier performance. Tell the idiot who wants to keep the tapes to prevent a law suit that if they do not return your tapes you will sue them on princible that they agreed to make copies for private non commercial purpose.
Hope this helps,

I would telecine to digital beta tape and color correct in telecine. With the digital beta tape in pal SD then burn a copy to mini DV to edit in FCP. Edit in FCP and take your final edit to video and Edit Dissision list to an online post and cut online with the digi beta master using EDL to cut to digi beta which is now your master edit which you can make DVD copies. With the digi beta master, he go out to film in the future all this in standard definition video. The 16mm is the original hd format that will provide great quality and film look based on the technology in the film itself. I have would recomend you transfer to HD at the start, but since your editting in SD and delevering in SD you would be just creating problems. Good luck with this project and I hope this helps.

How do you know a producer is lying? His lips are moving. You will never see any money. You are better off working on your own project for free. If you sell it you make the money. Get others to work for credit and experience while you build your reel. Video tape producers telling you they have no money and want you to work for free. Then video tape yourself asking stores in NYC if you can have something now and maybe pay them in the future if someone related to you dies and leaves you some money. Good luck.

A hold is a request to work for a company for a planned job. Let say you put a editor on hold for the month of April. You have not contracted him, nor do you owe him any money for the hold. If he gets any offers for work for that month, he would have to say he has a hold for the month but will find out if the hold want to turn the hold into a booking. He would then call the client who put him on hold first and by tradittion give them first option to his services. When the hold becomes firm in turns into a booking and the company agrees to hire the freelancer at at the rate and freelancer is considered booked and has to be payed for the term of the contract regardless of any changes. You are selling your exclusive time commitment when you would have to turn down all other offers. Hope this helps.

Hey you ask some good questions. I think you should have different rates based on the work and also type of client. Include your equipment in your hourly rate. For video editing on FCP you could charge 50 per hour for yourself plus eqipment. Maybe for graphics work 25 per hour. Then lower rate for church, documentary or school projects low budget work for half price but let these people your normal rate and you are doing a favor. Most people ask what type of project. You would charge more for a commercial verse birthday video motage. That being said you learn as you finish each job and that helps your confidence. About copy rights, it belongs to the creators of the project and unless you can get permision to copy don’t do it. You wouldn’t want someone to copy your work.

The deal is what you make it. Why don’t you pay your screen writer a good amount in the fourm of deferred payment. In contract each person who works on project gets paid after the investors have been paid back original investment and before any sharing of profit. Next you can sell investors points in project with a promise to pay back before any deferred payments are maid. Secondly, you can hand out points to project based on effort. Director and writer 5 points and one point for DP and editor on top of deferred payment. Remember you can give away 50 percent to investors and crew and talent and still keep 50 percent of the payoff. Keep in mind most projects don’t make a lot of money once you start paying everyone back and deferred payments so be generous with the deffered payment. Maybe pay someone 100 day cash and 200 day deffered. Or 300 day deffered if depends on budget. Try to spent as little as possible as you will need money for iteams you can deffer.
