    Hi Jeremy

Thanks for the advice. Although field dom all set to none I still get that juddering effect when diagonally moving images are put out to the display.
As I understand it from previous posts this is to be expected, as although everything is progressive internally all tv outputs end up i, so we’re getting two fields in succession that are the same? (This is not comfortable on the eye).

The Cinema Display of the output in the canvas is naturally fine. Maybe I should just use that for monitoring when working with progressive footage. As I understand it though, p footage will supply a better source material with more diverse output deliverables down the line? Would that also apply when outputting this material via Compressor to PAL (interlaced of course) SD DVDs? Will the fields ultimately transition smoothly visually at the end of the pipeline?

    Thanks for any feedback.
    Regards

    Hi Guys

Thanks. I’ve read all the posts – no offence.
We normally shoot in HDV and output to SD DVD.
Bought the EX1 as an extra cam and entry level into HD for the future.

It seems the BPAV folders may cause some problems for those not prepared for them. The Quicktime H.264 format suggestion or ProRes may be the best I can offer them as HD or if that’s not good enough for them I’ll refer to a outside service provider.

Thanks for the advice / tips and for a great site.

    Regards

March 31, 2010 at 8:49 am in reply to: Redigitizing Media for existing projects

    Hi David

The RAID is a LaCie Biggest S2S – probably a bit old by today’s standards I guess?
Some of the individual media quicktime files are accessable and copyable but most are not. The machine hangs when those suspect files are selected forcing a hard reboot.

Unfortunately Disk Warrior is not easily obtainable where i live and work. Are there any alternatives?

Will a reformat not fix the problem? These are all old projects so its not absolutely mission critical if I lose the media data if I can reconstitute the empty clips later through redigitizing?

    Thanks for the advice

    Thanks Gary

Followed steps except that there is no Firmware updater in utilities folder with 6.0.2 download.
My original disk is Version 2.0.1
Dont recall if I ran the Firmware updater on that first install.
But Kona only worked when I did the 1st 6.0.2 install.
Perhaps I should do an uninstall. Run 2.0.1 again. Run the firmware. Reinstall 6.0.2 and then 6.0.3 which I see is now available at AJA.

That helped with the all other media (DVCAM and some HDV stuff). Audio followed video in Soundtrack fine. It’s just the digitized Betacam media that’s not happy. Waveform is there. Levels start initially then fade to nothing for some reason. No audible sound with this media.

    Thanks Wayne

    Thanks Gary

I’ve had some brief success monitoring some other DVCAM clips (another project) when imported into Soundtrack Pro (or sent as a .stap)which have played through Kona outputs, when the relevant AJA option is selected under video tab in Soundtrack Pro Prefs. However after switching this to ‘none’ and then reselecting the AJA option cannot view video via PAL monitor and can no longer monitor audio via Kona output.

The media I’m currently working on has some audio background noise which I want to remove but cannot monitor output via Kona for some reason. Although these are Quicktime files could it be that the sound format is not native Mac sound? This was originally Betacam footage. Media was digitized in 10bit uncompressed by a third party (also an FCP user), supplied on disk. The music tracks supplied were .mp3’s so these had to be rendered in FCP. [Should have converted these 1st, I know]. I’m confused.
Not even the STP sound loop samples play via Kona.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks Wayne

    Hi Dean

No, still can’t monitor audio via Kona LHe within Soundtrack Pro, only via the built-in line output audio to some small desk speakers.

When in FCP can monitor audio fine via Kona analogue outputs. However if I send a .stap or play .aif samples I have to switch sound prefs to built-in line output.

Maybe I just need to update software drivers right across the board.
    Current software configuration:
    AJA ControlPanel – 6.0.2
    Mac OS 10.4.11
    FCP 6.0.5
    Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2
    Quicktime 7.5.5
MAC PRO EFI Firmware Update 1.2
MAC PRO SMC Firmware Update 1.1

Dean, any luck on your side?
Hi Gary, – what are we doing wrong?
    Any suggestions – thanks Wayne

After swopping the cards, reloading the software and also (possibly more importantly) disconnecting my Sony HDV deck things started to play OK ..voila ..no dropped frames. When playing from the timeline I’m only getting dropped frames when the HDV deck is being referenced by the system. So after I capture using this deck I just cut power on that offending deck. Progress, thanks guys for your suggestions.

Just a note on Soundtrack: When sending an audio track from FCP to Soundtrack Pro for processing am unable to monitor audio via the Kona LHe even though AJA Kona selected in Sys Prefs and AJA Kona selected in Recording Monitor tab. Can hear waveform when played via built-in line output speakers.

Sound plays to Kona ok when played from FCP timeline though??

Am I doing something wrong or is this not an option with the LHe?

    Thanks.
