Since you have Vegasaur, it’s quite easy. Go to quick properties and select the events tab. You make your adjustments using the Take Offset and Length checkboxes. Set 1 sec in your offset, adjust length, and then under length select 1 sec and also select Decrease in the rightmost Dropdown box. Then apply to your selected event.

It’s really worth learning to use all of the many features of Vegasaur–especially, since you’ve already paid for it.

Works OK here. Preview monitor set to 2nd monitor.

Thanks so much for your reply. It’s good to know that the variable frame rate issue was the real source of the problem, since I don’t do video recordings from a cell phone.

Since you’ve already exited, there is nothing to worry about. This is a common occurrence in V13 and I guess it hasn’t been fixed in V14. Just an annoyance.

A suggestion. In the future “don’t” use auto-ripple except for very basic cuts editing. It’s much too easy to get things fouled up if you have multiple tracks with titles, etc. I’ve had the same experience as you describe and its often difficult to get things back to where they were.

I think you’re in the wrong forum. This is for Vegas Pro, not Spectral Layers.

  • One requirement is that the recorded file must use constant frame rate recording–not variable frame rate as some software apps do. Unfortunately, there is not a foolproof way of determining this. MediaInfo may sometimes mistakenly indicate constant frame rate. One indication is that within Vegas, your frame rate under properties is not exactly 60 or 59.94. Best thing to do is upload a short clip.

Regardless, the problem almost certainly lies with your recording software. Have you tried others? You might want to have a look at this thread where I surprisingly found that OBS works quite well. It’s freeware.

With OBS recordings at 1080 60P, the resulting renders were near real-time with my old system–1080 30P would be even faster. Good luck.

  • The problem is your recording software. Since Vegas renders OK using a real camera, the really dramatic increase can only mean that Vegas does not like your recorded files. This seems to be a very common problem. You need to be specific about what software you are using. You could also upload a short sample of your problem recordings to something like Dropbox.

I’ve routinely used the Vegasaur smart-trim feature with 2.7K and 4K GoPro footage. It works but one needs to know its limitations. I’ve used it to save archived clips after project completion but it is quite difficult to ensure that the saved clips are identical to your events on the timeline. To do so required adding frames both to the front end and tail end of an event and then using PluralEyes to get an exact match between the original event and the trimmed file. It works, but it’s pretty tedious. I shared this procedure on the Vegas Pro forum but at the moment the search function isn’t working so I can’t provide a link. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this approach–that is, doing trimming after project completion.

It’s best use is right at the beginning as part of your basic cuts editing process. Just do cuts editing and add frames (I use 60) to both the front and tail. Then export and bring the trimmed clips back onto the timeline. One other thing to be aware of is that your metadata will be lost with the trimmed files.
