Almost all shows at Universal Studios here in California have transitioned to FCP.

I prefer two 23″ or 24″ monitors. The 30″ is too big in my opinion and the font is too small at its native resolution. If you adjust the font size to a more readable size, it defeats the purpose of having a large 30″ monitor.

I have one. Looks great. Works as expected. Used it yesterday for a color session with a client. They were very happy.

Can confirm the drive is OS X Extended. I don’t know what the DIT used to get the files to disk. All I know is we rented the Panasonic P2 Store card reader which is USB 2.0.
I have a feeling, again, something was wonky in the way the files were transfered to the OS X Extended formatted FW 800 drive.
But at least I know it’s not the SAN, WHEW!

I guess you mean the cards themselves. To clarify, the FW800 drive used to archive the card structure and bring back the data to Los Angeles from Florida was formated at Mac OS Extended. Nothing but the cards were formated as FAT 32, if that is in fact their format.
So I’m not sure why you keep referencing FAT 32 unless you are referring to the cards.

Ran the test. Shot some clips. One was a 23 minute spanned clip shot 720p 60 fps on the HPX-500. We imported it to a 1 TB FW800 shuttle drive on a G4 laptop using P2 Genie. I hooked up the drive and logged and transfered the 23 minute spanned clip to the SAN without a hitch. It played back fine running off the SAN.
I was also able to export the clip from FCP 6.0.5 as Quicktime, same as source, make self contained clip. It also worked.
My conclusion, the DIT did something to the clips when he backed up the P2 cards on location. P2 works fine with the SAN. The corruption was either introduced on location at the time of record, a bad set of P2 cards, or the DIT’s fault.

I haven’t tried 6.0.4. I have that on my clone so I will.
I will be running a test tomorrow shooting with an HVX-200 and an HPX-500 and spanning the P2 cards over 4 GB. I want to see if it was a fluke with the cards and camera on the last job or if this is in fact repeatable with new media.
I’ll keep you posted.

That’s the solution I’ll have to use.
By the way, the 18 GB file was just an example that I could export a file larger than 4 GB from FCP to the SAN if it wasn’t a clipped that originated as P2 spanned media. In other words, it’s not a 4 GB limit to the SAN just a 4 GB limit if it is P2 media.
Or the files we happened to shoot ended up corrupt on write to the P2 cards or when the DIT transfered them with the P2 store to the hard drive. I’ll never know the answer as I don’t have the P2 cards any more. Though I’m not leaving out the possibility that P2 spanned media is inherently wonky.

#4 I can L&T to an internal SATA Drive, to be clear, I can. But no I cannot then export it from FCP using Export Quicktime, Same as source, make independent clip.
When I reveal the clip in the finder it is a .mov file. I can play it in Quicktime I can hit the space bar and quick preview. Ic an work with it in FCP. Why it doesn’t like to export over AFP to the SAN I do not know.

Thanks for helping.
I think you need to reread what I wrote. I said I can copy the file to the SAN from the Finder. I cannot export it from FCP to the SAN nor can I L&T the spanned clips to the SAN.
I can set an internal SATA to the scratch disc and L&T fine. If I set the SAN as the Capture scratch disc I cannot.
I am not sure how this is a conflicting statement.
I think you are confusing copying from the Finder with exporting from FCP they use different protocols.
